Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

I hadn't even thought about Batman being inactive for the eight years leading up to The Dark Knight Rises. It actually makes a bit of sense with what Paul_SD said.

It does add more meaning to the "Rises" in the title. Also, it does somehow make it more powerful that he comes out of "hiding" to confront Bane. Maybe by the time DKR story line picks up Batman has only been out of commission for a few years and not the entire eight? I kind of like that idea.

Roger Ebert said it best when he revied Batman Begins:

'Batman Begins" at last penetrates to the dark and troubled depths of the Batman legend, creating a superhero who, if not plausible, is at least persuasive as a man driven to dress like a bat and become a vigilante.
These films are not grounded in reality but give off a more realistic tone than their predecesors. But they still have nonsense like microwave emitters that seem to vaporise water deep underground but leave above ground humans untouched and a police force so incompetent that all it takes is for you to turn off your headlights to evade pursuit (with air support no less). This isn't Batman: The French Connection by any means.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

Mike Gold used to edit the classic Mike Grell "Green Arrow" series in the 80s/early 90s... and one thing they did with the title was make it more grounded: trick arrows were gone, the tone was decisively more adult, the storylines more sophisticated and topical, and yes, more realistic.

So in the letter column, one self-righteous fanboy exploded with outrage, that Green Arrow was NOT realistic, because how could someone run around Seattle in a green outfit, shooting arrows around, with barely a mask on, and NOT have been hounded by the police and arrested by the FBI, that it was a joke to call the book "realistic".

Gold responded with something along the lines of, "No one ever said the book was realistic. However, it's more of a 'realistic compared to other superhero comics' title." Which pretty much nails what Nolan is doing.

If the comparison were strictly limited to B&R and the other three previous movies, I would more than likely agree.

Once I saw the back and forth over hypotheses I just skimmed over to this page. We need a new trailer or something to get the discussion back on track and then bitch about something else.

One thing stays constant, realistic or not: every actor ever complains about the suit.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

At least Bale can turn his head and look up and down with relative ease. Other than Lewis Wilson and Adam West, no other Batman live action actor had a less restrictive costume than Bale's in TDK.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

I remember watching that when it first aired back in 2002 but I believe that's the 2002 MTV Movie Awards, not the VMAs. Nolan won an award for "Best New Filmmaker" for Memento.

He looks so out of place behind Brittany Murphy.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

Well at least he looks like a DIRECTOR should stand, if he had moved a smidge like the guy on his right it would've been weird. But then again Sergio Leone was shaking booty in numerous nightclubs.

I've never heard anything but compliments from Bale about his second Batsuit.

If your trying to say Bale likes the second suit, you failed to accomplish that with your use of a double negative.

That's too small. I, for one, will be waiting for the preview of the trailer before commenting.
