Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

Okay, that was pretty cool. I'll go into spoiler mode but I won't get too spoilery.

Spoiler:
first off I like that the bad guy is once again introduced during a heist sequence, but this time instead of a bank being robbed, Bain is stealing a person. Nolan has become a pro filming action sequences in this format, it doesn't feel like they shot it in IMAX, more like it was designed for IMAX. The shot with one airplane "holding" another wouldn't have been nearly as cool if it was shot in 2:35, the extra vertical space allows you to get up close.
Tom Hardy seems like a badass as Bain, got a evil James Bond vibe from him. I did find it difficult to understand some of his dialogue, but I think that may partially be due to the sound design. I feel like I won't have as big of an issue with it once I sit down to watch the entire movie, allow the accent to soak in.

It was mentioned above by Nolan.

From what I've read, Hardy's doing more voice work and likely what you saw/heard in the prologue won't be the same as the finished product.

Bane's voice sucks, IMO. Hope it'll get better with the re-recording.

Looks good, and nothing in it as stunningly stupid as the school bus exiting a bank in broad daylight at a busy intersection without being noticed by anyone that was in the TDK prologue

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

There's a leak up with the audio and video out of sync, but the audio is really crisp. Bane is pretty easy to understand in that, so I have faith the actual theatrical audio will obviously be better.

For a moment there, I actually expected Bane to end a sentence by saying, "Mr. Bond".

Wonder what it was that caused the taper to say "Yes" out loud.

It's Batman throwing a punch at Bane on the courthouse steps.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

Saw it last night with a few people in D.C. While it was incredible overall, we all had varying degrees of difficulty understanding Bane. I got about half. Another guy said he understood 70%. And another said he understood almost nothing.

Really, really hope they fix it before the movie comes out.

I could understand a lot of it. It seems like it'll be better in the actual release as the audio on that was pretty bad. If Hardy needs to go back and re-do some of his lines it's not like they don't have time anyways.

I understood about 20% of what Saito said in Inception and still loved it and was glad I saw it sans subtitles in the theater, as long as I can understand over 50% of Bane's lines I'll be happy.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

I'm still wait and see about this movie. I wasn't overwhelmed by the prologue (it doesn't hold a candle to the Joker opening of the last film), but I'm not going to judge a movie by six minutes. Let's just say I'm more worried now than I was 24 hours ago that this sequel isn't going to live up to the previous two films.

As for Bane's voice, I probably understood one out of every three lines coming from him. It's definitely going to be an issue with audiences if that's the final sound mix (although I think we're all assuming it's not).

I'm more confident now than ever before that this film WILL live up to the previous two films and then some.

I agree. The Joker opening was ridiculously clever. This sequence was... used in the last film. I liked it a lot though but I'm going to keep my expectations in check.

The extraction of two from the plane out of a skyscraper was used in the last film, but everything else wasn't.

Besides it's not really about "what can we do that's better than the Joker opening". It's just about making a damn good opening on its own.

If people are always expecting everything to be somehow better than what came before by making comparisons, which will continue to happen with every bit of film we see, that's not keeping expectations in check.
