Not going to lie, it can't be worse than Poltergeist III.
|
Yes it can. It really really can.
There's already been one worse in the series and it was called Poltergeist II. K |
From Bloody-Disgusting:
This afternoon we learned that Vadim Perelman is in heavy talks to helm the remake of POLTERGEIST for MGM, which was (finally) officially announced here this month. |
No way this will be as good as the original. Especially without all the vintage Star Wars toys that the original had in it. :D
|
Eh, Poltergeist II was pretty cool and Julian Beck was awesome. The braces scene, the garage, the worm; the effects were pretty well done and only the story and ending were problems. III had the mirrors and the parking garage and that's it.

Well, if we can get a remake of Psycho, then I don't think any movie is too sacred.

I don't mind remakes of horror movies, they're tales that are prime for remake no matter how good or memorable the originals were. Remake Hitchcock all you want, it kind of shows how well made the stories were to begin with when you can take the concept and general plot and apply it to modern times with no issues what-so-ever. It's a director's game to apply atmosphere, make it as tense/"boo scary", and hopefully have a few characters or themes that just flat out get under your skin. I always enjoy comparing the old with the new, the old usually wins out. |
Re: POLTERGEIST Remake - Why?
Taken from here
ShockTillYouDrop.com has learned that MGM's planned remake of Tobe Hooper's classic '80s haunted house movie Poltergeist has received a release date of November 24, 2010, Thanksgiving weekend. With director Vadim Perelman (House of Sand and Fog) attached since last September, the production has been in development a long time with a script surfacing last year, but so far, no cast has been announced and no information about where or when they might start filming. |
Re: POLTERGEIST Remake - Why?
Vadim Perelman is awesome so i have no problem with this remake. I would love it if we got an R-rated remake. Doubt that'll happen but i can wish.

Psycho (1960) > Psycho (1998) Batman Begins (2005) > Batman (1989) ... and so on. With that being said, I didn't like Poltergeist so I'm all for a remake. :D |
Re: POLTERGEIST Remake - Why?
Poltergeist is my earliest memory of being scared as a kid. I haven't seen it since then - I was probably 2 or 3 at the time - but I believe some fat old woman like disintegrated in to bugs or something? Either way she was a fat old lady and turned in to like millions of insects. I peed my pants.
I'd be interested in a remake. |

P3 came out in 1988, so I'm guessing it was on VHS/HBO in 1989. I was either 2 or 3 depending when then. I have no idea why I remember that scene - I grew up on the Freddy and Jason films and they never did anything to me like that one scene did. |
Re: POLTERGEIST Remake - Why?
I'm no longer shocked about any film being re-made.
Hell they remade The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween and those are both far better horror films than Poltergeist. At least this one has an interesting director attached. |
Re: POLTERGEIST Remake - Why?
I never much cared for Poltergeist but even if I did, a remake wouldn't bother me. They can either do it better which would be great. Or they can screw it up and the superior original would still be around to be enjoyed.

Re: POLTERGEIST Remake - Why?
Didn't Spielberg have something to do with Poltergeist? Producer or something?
|
Re: POLTERGEIST Remake - Why?
Meh. I don't get worked up over remakes really anymore to be honest. If the remake is good its fine, and if it sucks there's always the original its not like all copies are going to be destroyed or something. Never really understood why people get so worked up. I probably will at least give this a chance somewhere along the line.

Re: POLTERGEIST Remake - Why?
Meh, I'll just ignore it like I ignore the other remakes. Doesn't bother me.

Re: POLTERGEIST Remake - Why?
Worst remake idea of ther week. You can't top the first Poltergeist.
My guess is they will make everyone about 25 and make it with quick cuts for today's audience. It will be like Transformers 2. Lots of explosions and CGI. Fail. |
Re: POLTERGEIST Remake - Why?
I'm not gunning for a remake but I've also never seen the Poltergeist. I think I saw 10 mins. of it when shit was going crazy and I think something with a TV and a kid happened. Also...some short lady freaking out and yelling or something. Kinda wish there was a commentary on the DVD, cuz then I'd love to get it.

Holy shit dude, see Poltergeist! IMO, it still holds up as a great ghost flick, but it's not nearly as scary as it was when I was a kid at home sick seeing it for the first time. I watched a lot of horror as a kid and even though Poltergeist isn't the most extreme movie I lost my little kid shit at Spoiler:
I've heard many other people agree that this was a pretty intense childhood moment. I know I'll see the remake. So, whatever... but im not sure there is too much to improve upon. I like the "Speilbergian" vibe and the time the movie takes to actually make you care about Freelings as much as I like the scares. I'm afraid they may need to make this more frenetic and let's face it, haunted house movies are generally terrible films nowadays. Edit to add: Both of you see it! :) |
