Best Brian De Palma Movie
which one do you think is Brian De Palma's best movie?
Blow Out. A perfectly crafted, riveting thriller in the mode of The Conversation and of course Blow Up, with deeply sympathetic performances by Travolta and Allen. I would have included Obsession, Raising Cain, or even Hi, Mom! or Greetings instead of Mission:Impossible, Femme Fatale or Carlito's Way.

Blow Out gets my vote. I also love, love The Untouchables and especially Phantom of the Paradise (one of the most sorely underrated cult favorites ever).
easy question:
1. Carlito's Way is IMO the best de palma film followed by: 2. The Untouchables and 3. Scarface |

Mission To Mars

Scarface.
It's a toss-up between Vertigo and Strangers on a Train.
Looking at that list reminds me of how De Palma can let good films get bloated and lazily-paced. Blow Out is a clear exception and gets my vote.
this is a really hard question because i think depalma in his prime is fucking brilliant but i went with BLOW OUT.
I'll pick Carrie, but I like horror movies more than anything anyway ( except for westerns maybe)
I also like Blow Out and Dressed to Kill I thought Femme Fatale was terrible. I bought that years ago and traded it back in within the week. |
Carlito's Way had the best performances from his cast. Untouchables probably had some of the most memorable lines and scenes. I voted Carlito.
The Untouchables. Although, I really like Mission Impossible and the unmentioned Body Double.
I went ahead and voted Blow Out, but my opinion could change in the near future since a few of the other options are in my "Unwatched DVD Pile"
Other: Body Double. Say what you'll like, but I love that movie and could watch it again and again. Although The Untouchables gives it a run for its money, as does Blow Out.
Sisters is pretty good in the first 20 minutes, then it turns into a suck fest. |
Scarface for sure - a classic!

I've always had a soft spot for Scarface. It's got all of De Palma's trademark camera work, a grand, epic story, loads of violence and a rockin' soundtrack.
Close second: Carrie or Blow-Out. |
Phantom of the Paradise is my favorite by far.
The Untouchables for me. I LOVE that movie. It should have won Best Picture.
scarface, so silly and over the top, ya gotta love it
