This time, homicidal Riggs (Mel Gibson) is about to retire, but pulls Murtaugh (Danny Glover) out of retirement to solve one final case, before they both officially head off into the sunset.

TrackingB.com says that Gibson and Glover are down to return, but no deals have been signed.
That really sounds like the plot of Lethal Weapon 3 AND 4.

Honestly, I love this series, but there is really NO interest in a fifth film.

LW4 was admittedly rushed into theaters, and it's a small miracle that was only mediocre. It was largely improvised, stale, and lazy, but it did have some solid one-liners, good action, and a nice ending. It's like watching bloopers from other Lethal Weapon movies.

The producers should be greatful some people liked it and it made money. Unless LW5 was going to be a dark, gritty cop movie, this might be a really bad idea.

RIDICULOUS NOTION.

Mel's balding

and

have you seen Danny Glover recently? He's an old man! Go rent Be Kind, Rewind and you'll see. Sure, it could be make-up, but he was playing 50 way back in 1987!

Normally I'd pass. But if Shane Black wrote it... And if he wrote it as a definitive conclusion to the series...

Lethal Weapon I & II were gritty action movies, but III started trending towards campy, and IV was ridiculous. When Leo asks for a gun that is my response to a Part V movie, "NO!"

i would actually be down for this. I thought Lethal Weapon 4 was terrific fun and much an improvement over LW 3.
As long as the "gang" all returns I'll definitely look forward to this even though i really doubt it'll happen.

Considering Murtaugh (the character) was celebrating his 50th B-Day in LW1 in 1987, that would make him 70-something in the next LW installment.

Now, he really would be too old for this shit!!

It would have to be rated R, and only if they could bring back Joe Pesci too.

I thought it was some sort of retainer/braces or something...maybe that was just in Shooter...but his 'spit lisp' is getting highly annoying.

No kidding...right up there with Ford, Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Willis... like they'd ever return to play their signature characters!

Seriously, Mel's ears are getting bigger too... The family-related stuff is what killed 3 & 4 imo. If they returned to a gritty, hard-core story with little to no family subplots, I'd be interested. (and no Renee Russo, Chris Rock and Joe Pesci)

It would be good if you had Riggs and Murtaugh plus another young buck.

Mel Gibson's looking pretty old. I saw him in an interview so I'm not sure how this will work.

Like the Rocky and Rambo series, the Lethal Weapon series ended on a less than stellar movie and could use a proper bookend to finish it out. It could be done - it has been done recently. It's just a question of whether or not the script is up to that level.

The Dirty Harry series could use a proper final film (one that's worthy of it's predecessors), but I'm pretty sure Clint thinks that HE'S too old for that shit....

Man LW series has been one of my favs, not for anything other than the way the characters interact. It was real fun. Don't know if this will work, but I hope its great.

If they had the right script and the actors' hearts were really in it this time(unlike Legal Wreckin "Bore" which was clearly a money grab), then it might work.

Shane Black's return would be welcome. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was terrific and the first Legal Wreckin was a gritty, dark action thriller.

Honestly it all comes down to the script when pulling these franchises out of mothballs. Rocky Balboa worked because it had a good one and Stallone wanted to send the series out on a proper note. Live Free or Die Hard did not work because the script sucked and the studio mandated PG-13 rating left it feeling neutered. T3 was decent mostly because of Ahnuld and some great action setpieces(that series was never about strong writing). Indy 4 sucked because of a lousy script and lazy directing. I haven't seen Rambo yet, so I can't comment on that one.

Danny Glover has always been a marble mouth.

IV was a terrible movie, but I've been pleasantly surprised by franchise sequels the last couple of years, so if Black is involved, I'll watch.
