The Western rides again: 'Appaloosa' trailer

based on the 2005 novel Appaloosa by Robert B. Parker. The film is directed by Ed Harris and is co-written by Harris and Robert Knott. Appaloosa stars Harris alongside Viggo Mortensen and Renee Zellweger. Appaloosa is centered around two friends who are hired to defend a town from a lawless rancher. Their plans are disrupted by the arrival of an attractive widow.

OH, HELL YEAH!!!!

I am a HUGE fan of Westerns, and this one looks great! I also like almost everyone in the cast, so this could be one hell of a great movie! I can't wait!!

Been slim pickings in the Western genre in recent years. I'm intrigued by the casting of Jeremy Irons, though Zellweger makes me a bit weary.

Too tired to watch the trailer, but by Zeus's beard, I don't give a shit that Zellweger is in it.

This has Lance Henriksen in addition to Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen? Okay, I want to see this right now, especially after the Western's recent glory both literally (Jesse James, 3:10 to Yuma) and figuratively (TWBB, No Country). Sold.

There's nothing like seeing a Western on the BIG screen. Westerns were made for the big screen.

Don't forget The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada and The Proposition.

Indeed I forgot The Proposition. I'm real lame and haven't seen Three Burials. After No Country I kept meaning to, but I haven't. Definitely will though.

Yeah, I'll see it, but it wasn't until watching Unforgiven yesterday that I realized how utterly unmarketable and unprofitable westerns are.

I mean, Holy Shit, Unforgiven ranks in at third of all-time with just barely over 100 million?? Also, calling Dances With Wolves a western is a stretch. A real...stretch.

I can't believe any place in Hollywood would take the risk on such a genre, but I'm happy as hell they do.

And, again, this movie looks righteous.

Yeah, but look at the release dates on most of those! Adjust the box office takes for inflation and they double or even triple those numbers in several cases. Even Unforgiven would be over $200 Million if adjusted for inflation.

Well, I don't share everyone else's enthusiasm. It just looks like another shootout film.

Substitute Mortensen for Kevin Costner and Harris for Robert Duvall and Zellwegger for Annette Bening and it's Open Range.

I hoped Hollywood would lean towards more cerebral Westerns like The Assassination of Jesse James.
