'The Road' - Nov. 2008
This is the new film adapted form a Cormac McCarthy(NCFOM) novel. This novel won Cormac the Pulitzer. John Hillcoat is directing, and he has my attention as a director after 'The Proposition'.
It opens in November in what appears to be a rather unusual opening schedule: NY and LA on Nov. 14 2008, then limited release on Nov. 21, then wide release on Nov. 28. I would guess an effort to 'build' an audience? Rather promising cast: Viggo Mortensen, Guy Pearce, Robert Duvall, Garret Dillahunt, Charlize Theron, et al. I'm thinking this has potential seeing the promising Director, the cast, and the source material. Set in a sort of post-apocalyptic world, a father(Mortensen) is trying to get his son(Kodi Smit-McPhee) to safety after a nuclear catastrosphe. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0898367/ (Some mild/slight spoilers in this NY Times article.) http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/27/mo...in&oref=slogin I'm looking forward to seeing this. |
This book haunted me for a while after reading it. I hope they're able to capture the mood and tone the book set. I heard good things about 'Proposition' and this is a talented cast. Looking forward to it.

Call me crazy, but I think this will be one of the best movies of the year (unless they make big changes from the book, it'll be a downer though!). Fantastic cast, and I absolutely loved "The Proposition."
|
I don't know... I loved the book so much as it really got to me, as well as being one of the most depressing things Ive ever read. Just not sure how this will translate to a movie. Its just going to be a really gutwrenching film.

This could be great and a major Oscar contender. Or it could be an unsuccessful adaptation and total failure. Or it could just be average.
There, that's my bold prediction. ;) |
I didn't know this was set to come out this year. Now I have something to look forward to. I think having Viggo Mortenson as the dad is perfect casting. I wonder who Charlize plays. I don't recall any major women in the book.

Seems like The Coen Bros opened the flood gates and Cormac McCarthy is getting a nice later career resurgence.
All The Pretty Horses came out in 2000, then nothing. NCFOM comes out, cleans up, and now 3 of his novels are due to hit the big screen in the next year (this one, Outer Dark, and Blood Meridian (Ridley Scott helming, adapted by The Departed scribe William Monahan)). I'm sure one or two of those was planned priorly but NCFOM must have helped financing.. or something. Cool . |

Those shots looks awesome.
I'm stoked. |
Those shots have the EXACT look and feel that I pictured in my head when reading the book.
|
Has anyone heard anything on when we can expect a trailer for this? I'm dying to see some actual footage.
|
Yeah, the pics look great... Im getting pretty excited now.
|
Wow I thought this was going to be a good movie to begin with, but now Omar is it in, sold. Hopefully I can catch a screening on the 21st in my area...that would be a nice birthday gift to myself.
|
Omar! Count me in!

The LA Times ran an article on this film in production. WARNING: The article contains spoilers for those who haven't read the book and also comments on some of the changes the film makes to the source material.
|
I was weeping like a little baby for the last three pages of this book. I hope this film can capture even a little bit of the emotional whallop that it had. Looks great.
|
OMAR!!!! nice!
Shots look great so far... |
Only thing I noticed is
Spoiler:
Just finished the book and loved it. Can't wait to see this. Looks like a definite Oscar contender. |

I thought "this has to be fanmade", the I saw the same images on the 2929 website. Ho-hum poster. Not very evocative. TWC would probably have had a big "and CHARLIZE THERON" on the poster. There's also no tagline, and only one production logo where four companies have dibs. |
