I am not looking forward to a remake of this, but at least it's not Disney Channel looking to remake it, or we'd get a slew of Disney tweens and teens in the starring roles.

Ugh MTV once again ruins something that all of us once loved.

I've seen this performed live multiple times with radical reimaginings, and it could be done. For one thing, they need to try to get back in the energy from the live performance into the movie. As much as I love RHPS, outside of Tim Curry, it is absolutely leaden.

Miley Cyrus - Remake of Rocky Horror

Fox wants to remake "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"
:( Yet another bad idea...
We still have to wait an entire week for Glee‘s much-blogged about Rocky Horror Picture Show episode, and considering the buzz surrounding the Gleeks take on the cult classic, it’s not surprising that there is now some interest in pursuing a feature-length remake. Deadline is reporting that Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy has met with Fox 2000 to discuss an updated version of Jim Sharman’s 1975 Frankenstein romp, which originally starred Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, and Barry Bostwick. Murphy is known for writing and directing some of Glee‘s flashier, more elaborate episodes (like last season’s “The Power of Madonna” and the recent “Britney/Brittany.”) To date, his feature-length directorial credits include Running With Scissors (2006) and this summer’s Eat Pray Love. Both were memoir adaptations, and both received lukewarm response from critics (EW’s Lisa Schwarzbaum gave Eat Pray Love a C+), but Murphy’s musical touch could be the perfect fit for a Rocky Horror reboot. http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/10/18/gl...horror-remake/ |
Re: Fox wants to remake "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"
The only positive I can see is if Richard O'Brien comes back and works on this so that they can do those sequels he wrote up but couldn't do because of the '80 actors strike.

Re: Fox wants to remake "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"
As if the enduring success of RHPS has ANYTHING to do with the movie itself.

Re: Fox wants to remake "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"
Well, it's a shitty idea, but what the hell.
Eddie Izzard as Frank N. Furter, and John Krasinski as Brad. That's all I got for now. |
Re: Fox wants to remake "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"
Meh. Never saw the original.

Re: Fox wants to remake "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"
I couldn't get into the original. I saw it when I was 15 or 17. I should probably give it a try. It just doesn't seem something that'd appeal to me. Oddly enough..when The Drew Carey show did a small bit of it...I liked that homage to it. I'll give it a try, I guess.

Otherwise there's absolutely no point. |
Re: Fox wants to remake "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"
Yeah but it's got to stand on it's own merits as a film too. Instead as an "experience" or whatever. I mean...seems like it's a good film from the way people talk about it.

Re: Fox wants to remake "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"
First time I saw it was around Halloween when KTVU, the local Fox affiliate, would play a version where there was an theatrical audience w/stage that would be cut-to at the musical numbers. It actually pissed me off and preferred the regular viewing mode.
It's definitely an odd movie and I prefer Shock Treatment over it. |

It's a fun film to watch with others and the music is pretty catchy. But it is really really really stupid to watch simply as a film. This is a dumb fucking idea from Fox. The ONLY way it works is if they actually make a good movie out of it. Sort of how the original Little Shop of Horrors is terrible (they shot it over a weekend) but the remake is outstanding. |
