Yep. At first I thought Roeper might be heading elsewhere over money squabbles, but it seems both he and Ebert had some issues with the creative side. So I suppose they'll both move on, but Roeper will probably do his own show, possibly with Ebert involved. I'm not sure if all that much will change.

Roeper is a good critic. He's an average guy who just loves movies. His reviews are straightforward and he has a good sense of humour.

Well that sucks. I liked him, sad seeing both of them going. I haven't missed a show in years. I liked the fact that he seemed like the average guy. Some critics come off as enjoying nothing but Artsy type of movies.

It took awhile for me to like Roeper but in the last couple of years I've found that he and I have pretty much the same taste in movies. I can go off of his recommendation for a movie and feel confident that I'll like it as well.
It's too bad the show is over. I love being able to watch a show that's strictly about reviewing films. Those tabloid TV shows are utter trash (don't even get me started and the vile POS: Entertainment Tonight!) No celebrity gossip, no pat-on-the-back interviews, no obnoxious "comedy" bits, just good old fashion see it/don't see it reviews. I don't want anything else.
If Ebert ever loses the ability to type I'll be totally fucked!

I don't always agree with him, but I have been watching "The Ultimate Trailer Show" on HDnet with Robert Wollensky. I hated him the first time I saw him sub on E&R, and then grew into liking his style. As I said, I don't always agree with his reviews, but I love the show, and that is where I've been getting my "movie" fix (in a TV show).

from Roeper's column today:
As you may have heard, I'm leaving "At the Movies with Ebert & Roeper" next month, which means it won't be called "At the Movies with Ebert & Roeper" any more, what with no Ebert & no Roeper.
Thanks to the hundreds of viewers who have sent good wishes since the announcement. You guys just overwhelmed me with your kind words.
And just to clarify, since the question came up more than once: I'm staying in Chicago and I will continue to write four columns a week for the Sun-Times. I'll also continue to send Twitter updates.
Any future TV program will also be produced right here. This is my home. Unless I'm tapped to play Jack's long-lost brother on the next season of "Lost," I ain't moving anywhere for a TV show.

I was also bugged how he always used so many of his reviews to assert his heterosexuality. He was always interjecting some awkward tidbit about his memory of Phoebe Cates getting out of the pool, or wondering who would leave Diane Lane on shore. Yes, Richard, we get it. You're not gay.

kind of glad now hes leaving since ABC is trying to turn the show into another ET
"Ebert and ABC have been engaged in difficult contract renegotiations for the past year and its been revealed that the departure is mainly due to ABC wanting to take the show in a more "Entertainment Tonight"-style gossip direction."

How about getting..
Dwayne Edwards & Antoine Merryweather
or Speed and Tyrone

Sad to see the end of an era in television.

At the Movies' gets news hosts Lyons, Mankiewicz By LYNN ELBER, AP Television Writer
25 minutes ago
Over the years, TV's best-known movie review show has gone from hosts Siskel and Ebert to Ebert and Roeper to Roeper and guest critics — and now it's Lyons and Mankiewicz.
Ben Lyons, a Hollywood reporter and film critic for "E! News" and others, and Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz will take over "At the Movies" when its new season begins in September, Disney Domestic Television said Tuesday.
Don't look for the syndicated program's "thumbs up-thumbs down" ratings to return. Roger Ebert shares a trademark lock on it with the widow of his late co-host, Gene Siskel, and Ebert has said they're hanging on to it.

As was thinking about this; Mankiewicz and Robert Osborne would make good co-hosts.

That statement from Roeper indicates pretty clearly he's just moving to another program/network....so not much should change. I dvr Roeper every week - just watched it last night. it's the only movie review show worth watching.

“My last episode of ‘At the Movies’ will air the weekend of Aug. 16th-17th. I wish Disney the best of luck with their new show, whatever form it may take. In the meantime, it is my intention to proceed elsewhere with my ninth year as the co-host of a movie review show that honors the standards established by Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert more than 30 years ago. I will be free to share the details on that program in the near future.”
