Best Superhero Movie Ever! (new and improved)

Actually, it is almost exactly the same, but perhaps you voted too early, regret the first choice, want to make amends, and blame me for my insanity.

my vote from previous thread:
i loved BB and i loved TDK, but TDK seemed more like a crime thriller than superhero movie and just transcended to another level.

but, i still feel the giddy child-like enthusiasm for S:TM when i watch it today.

BB and TDK are better written and better acted movies. but S:TM is the very definition of "superhero" movie and thus my vote for it for all-time.

1. Superman: The Movie
2. Batman Begins
3. The Dark Knight (might move up based on repeat viewings)
4. Spider-Man 2
5. X-Men
6. Superman II
7. X2: X-Men United
8. Iron Man
9. Batman (1989)
10. Daredevil: Director's Cut

Honorable Mention:
The Incredibles
The Punisher: Extended Cut

What do you think is the best Superhero movie ever, or at least through Summer '08?

Quake1028 07-19-08 01:05 PM

1.Batman Begins
2.X2
3.Iron Man
4.Spidey 2
5.Superman

The Dark Knight would be #6 or #7 right now. If I counted The Incredibles, it would slot in at #5.

Deftones 07-19-08 01:11 PM

TDK
X-Men 2
Batman Begins
Spidey 2
The Incredibles

PopcornTreeCt 07-19-08 01:17 PM

The Dark Knight...by far.

Cornelius1047 07-19-08 02:16 PM

I never really understood the whole "transcends its genre" comment. Until I saw The Dark Knight. It is as close to a masterpiece as any "superhero" movie I've seen, and did what even Batman Begins didn't do, which is make me never want to watch any of the original Batman (1989-1995) movies again.

1. The Dark Knight
2. Batman Begins
3. Spider-Man 2
4. X-Men 2
5. Superman Returns

For me, my new rankings are...

Dark Knight
Batman Begins
Spider-Man 2
X2
Iron Man

I've complained about the original Superman plenty enough. It's far down on my list and honestly, the more I see it the more the flaws bother me and make me think people are living off the nostalgia factor.

Doughboy 07-19-08 02:31 PM

Superman: The Movie is still at the top of my list. That had an epic feel no other superhero movie has captured, although Batman Begins and The Dark Knight came very close. Hell, even the opening credits are epic. And Superman has the fantastic John Williams score.

I'd rank them:

1) Superman: The Movie
2) Superman II
3) Batman Begins/The Dark Knight(tied)
4) Spider-Man 2
5) Unbreakable
6) X-Men 2
7) Spider-Man
8) X-Men
9) Iron Man
10) The Incredibles

Am I the only one that though Batman Begins was only average, but loved The Dark Knight?

My top nine would contain The Rocketeer, Hellboy, Blade, The Crow, Superman: The Movie, X2, Spider-Man 2, Superman 2, and The Dark Knight in some random order.

Mountain Biker 07-19-08 02:35 PM

This is lame. With TDK fresh on everyone's mind, of course it will come out on top now. Whatever. The orginal Supes is still tops in my book...

1. Superman
2. Superman II
3. Batman
4. Iron Man
5. The Dark Knight

I've never liked the Superman character, so I haven't seen 2, 3, 4 or Returns.
Saw the original when I was little, and never again.

I'm in complete agreement. If I never see those films again, I really wouldn't care anymore after seeing Begins and TDK. My childhood loyalty to them is gone.

Coming from a lifelong Spider-Man/Marvel fan, I have to say The Dark Knight edges out Spider-Man 2 for the top spot on my list now.

devilshalo 07-19-08 03:29 PM

Watchmen.

Shannon Nutt 07-19-08 06:19 PM

The Dark Knight is so dramatically superior to any "superhero" movie we've seen to date, that everything else in this poll pales by comparison.

I imagine in a few years we'll be talking about Dark Knight in coversations about The Godfather and GoodFellas rather than Superman: The Movie.

Nolan has not only made (easily) the best superhero movie of all time, he's made one of the best mafia/mob movies I've ever seen.

B5Erik 07-19-08 06:43 PM

1. Spider Man 2
2. X2
3. Spider Man
4. The Incredible Hulk
4. Iron Man
6. X-Men
7. Batman Begins
8. Daredevil (Director's Cut)
9. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
10. X-Men 3

NoirFan 07-19-08 07:46 PM

Another poll, and we still don't have either of the two Burton films included.

Quake1028 07-19-08 07:49 PM

They don't deserve to be included. They are the 3rd and 4th best Batman films, at best, and that would be too many for a 10 choice poll.

NoirFan 07-19-08 07:51 PM

Well, they are certainly far superior to those dorky, tacky Superman movies. Those are the films that don't deserve to be included.

what do you think "Other (please specify)" means? -wink-

that's simply not even close. how do you make a statement like that? in this movie the mafia/mob were there, but tertiary characters at best. they were caricatures and feeble ones at that. and anything Eric Roberts does now takes all serious credibilty and dumps in the toilet.

fumanstan 07-19-08 08:16 PM

I think we should leave out the Incredibles on these, and narrow it down to comic book superhero adaptations.

You misunderstood what I was saying...the Joker IS the "mafia". Batman/Gordon/Dent ARE the "feds". It's from that viewpoint I rank this as one of the greatest mob movies ever. You have to look at it beyond face value.

You're not one of those people who think Moby Dick is JUST about some guy chasing a big fish, are you? :)

That may be true, but I'd like to hear your reasoning behind the Joker's underpinning "chaos" philosophy as it applies to this film. All metaphorical principles aside, the bottom line is in fact chaos. Mafia principles, to me, are more tightly knit and controlled, ruled for a reason.

The Joker's methodology is finely tuned and controlled .. but the purpose is where I tend to disagree with your rationale. Alfred's "bandit" story would seem to back up my claim, especially as it plays out.

Mondo Kane 07-19-08 09:04 PM

Well, as far as super-powered superheroes go, it's still X2 for me.

Non-super-powered goes to Dark Knight.

I'll add a vote the 2nd time I see Knight again for a overall winner.

LivingINClip 07-19-08 09:25 PM

Superman
The Dark Knight
Batman Begins

That is my top three .
