John Ford's calvery trilogy:
1) Fort Apache 2) She Wore a Yellow Ribbon 3) Rio Grande |
Totally forgot about Kieslowski's Three Colors trilogy, and Pakula's loose "conspiracy trilogy" of Klute, All the President's Men and the magnificent Parallax View.

Rocky - His whole life was a million-to-one shot
Rocky II - The story continues.... Rocky III - The greatest challenge |

Isnt that considered a quadrilogy? |

Man, where are the Criterion editions of those already? They're all owned by Janus anyway.

Nolan's Batman Trilogy ;)

Infernal Affairs?
I've only seen the 1st so I don't know the others measure up. I'd vote Alien Trilogy, A:Res I don't really consider part of the franchise. Oh yeah, I loved Alien³ |
mhg83,
There is a trilogy within that Bring It On Quadrilogy!;) Same with Star Wars, there's a decent trilogy among that Sextilogy... |
I wonder why there's no love for the Apu trilogy? :(
|
I will go with Godfather. I + II are powerhouses, III is unneccessary but doesn't do a lot of damage to the legacy. I actually kinda like the ending of III as well, but II's ending was still the best.
As for LOTR, man I feel those movies weren't that good, especially III. |
None of the above.
Toss up between Chan-wook's Vengeance trilogy or Leone's Dollars trilogy. I'd probably go with inri's choice as I've heard nothing but great things about the Human Condition trilogy, but at $100+ a pop I'll probably never get to see them all. |

On the list trilogy: LOTR
Not on the list: Leones "Trilogy" consisting of Once Upon A Time IN The West, Once Upon A time...The Revolution(AKA A Fistful of Dynamite or Duck, You Sucker), and Once Upon A Time IN America |
Very very difficult for me to pick SW over LOTR but I did.
SW is the magical trilogy of my childhood. LOTR is the magical trilogy of my (debatable) adulthood. Nostalgia wins. |

Eventhough they are both part of one story, I think the SW trilogy wins over LOTR because the SW films are more complete films by themselves.
New Hope and Jedi have endings, while only Return of the King has an ending. I feel a bit left hanging after watching the first two Lord of the Rings flicks. So overall, SW trilogy slightly wins over LOTR trilogy because SW trilogy only has one left-hanging flick (Empire), while LOTR trilogy has two left-hanging flicks (Felowship and Towers). |
Robocop of course.
|
Such an easy choice...
The Original SW trilogy |

LOTR definitely. It just never loses its luster and wonder.
The Star Wars (IV-VI) movies i find only the first one watchable, the next two are starcraft games. |

I'm going with Star Wars - LOTR is great, but there would be no LOTR without Star Wars.
I'd also like to toss Sergio Leone's "Dollars Trilogy" in for some love, too. |

Opening at New York’s Film Forum before traveling around the country, the epic puts Japanese superstar Tatsuya Nakadai center stage as a pacifist forced to fight for his country in World War II and also features well known (and frequently Criterion-featured) actors Chishu Ryu and Hideko Takamine. Click here for more information on present and upcoming playdates." This would bode well for an eventual Criterion release. |
Star Wars all the way
|
Damn, it's hard to pick between Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.
A New Hope = Fellowship Empire Strikes Back >>>>> The Two Towers Return of the King >>>>> Return of the Jedi Ugh, I can't pick. |

Well those were honest omissions. |

Dude, I liked the ewoks! Imagine the flaming that Lucas would have gotten if he tried to pull off cute teddy bears defeating a entire legion of stormtroopers. |
I'm voting Star Wars.
 at no love for Jurassic Park |
