Re: Outlander-A Sci-Fi Viking Epic
Despite the movie not being shown in my town since release, it popped up in our only $1 theater. Caught it and loved the movie! The acting was fun and it felt like 13th Warrior meets Pitch Black. Go see it!

Finally saw this and liked it quite a bit, just a fun popcorn flick. The acting was even OK, except for maybe the bald drunk guy.

Re: Outlander-A Sci-Fi Viking Epic
I just watched this and kinda loved it also. Great, fun, inventive, impressive, epic, consistently entertaining action movie. My 2nd favorite release of 2009 (even though IMDB lists a 2008 release year). Much better than the summer films I have seen (Wolverine, T4, Angels and Demons and I even liked it more than Star Trek).

Re: Outlander-A Sci-Fi Viking Epic
I just finished watching Outlander. What a great sci-fi adventure movie! Pretty gruesome, but a terrific mix of Vikings, alien dragons, and pre-medieval violence!

Re: Outlander-A Sci-Fi Viking Epic
I want this movie but whats up with no bluray? Pretty shitty

Re: Outlander-A Sci-Fi Viking Epic
^ There's a Canadian BD available, but seeing as how they cropped the film to 1.78:1 I'd say it's advisable to pass on it. I agree, major bummer there's no US BD release as I def would have blind bought it.

Re: Outlander-A Sci-Fi Viking Epic
Damn, even the blu release is crappy in CAN. I doubt theyll ever do a blu release here

Re: Outlander-A Sci-Fi Viking Epic
There's a rumour that Alliance will reissue the BD in the correct aspect ratio but nothing has come of it as of yet. And since the Weinsteins hold the US rights... :(

Re: Outlander-A Sci-Fi Viking Epic
I just rented the recently-release US Blu-ray after becoming interested in the film due to this "Commentary Tracks of the Damned" article over at AV Club:
http://www.avclub.com/articles/outlander,39401/ I really enjoyed the film for what it is, a rollicking fun monster movie. I thought the CGI of the creature was effective and pretty good for what was a limited-budget film. Then I listened to the commentary, and had a new-found appreciation for the film. The commentary is lively and very detailed, going into a lot of the difficulties they encountered due to budget and time, and the tricks they employed to get around them. For example, the budget was so limited that the director ended up spending his per diem on a specific prop he wanted for the film. Overall, it was a good experience, and I'm glad there's a decent Blu-ray of it out in the US now. |
Re: Outlander-A Sci-Fi Viking Epic
I always have a great time when I watch this movie. It's so much fun and I wish it had performed better. Not sure how, though, since it didn't get much of a theatrical release.
