Meet Dave, I got a bad feeling about this.

While Hellboy 2 & Journey to the Center of the Earth are garnering good reviews at RT Meet Dave looks to be not available for advance screening since it has yet to have one review. That is a really bad sign. Studio is trying to get a good opening weekend before word gets around based on a big star. Hell, even Love Guru wasn't kept away from critics. Could be a Golden Raspberry candidate in the making coming out Friday.

I hate the 'new' Eddie Murphy. In fact, I wasn't even a fan of the 'original' Eddie Murphy either... but he was in some good movies.

meh.

Early prediction: it will sweep the Razzies.

Looks like complete dog shit. Hell, I'd rather watch a dog shit than sit through this. Hear that, Eddie?

meh.

He was good as Mr. Robinson and as Gumby, dammit.

Eddie should have moved away from "high-concept star vehicles" a *LONG* time ago. He was spectacular in "Dreamgirls", and that was a high watermark blip in a long, steady decline of a once-promising comic actor.

Eddie Murphy IS Norbit! Eddie Murphy IS Dr. Doolittle! Eddie Murphy IS The Nutty Professor! Eddie Murphy IS Pluto Nash!!! etc. etc. etc.

What was his last really good, really different, really exciting movie? I loved "Bowfinger" and "Boomerang", but those were 9 and 16 years ago, respectively.

Hell, it may go all the way back to Coming to America.

How many $100m flops can Murphy survive?

Brain Stew 07-09-08 08:39 PM

This movie looks bad, but not nearly as bad as Norbit.

FinkPish 07-09-08 08:40 PM

I have a bad feeling I've seen all this before: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=528537

Well with Beverly Hills Chihuahua coming out later this year, I think we may have a tie.

Mr. Cinema 07-09-08 08:55 PM

There were enough morons in the US to contribute $95 million to Norbit. Don't underestimate them.

Seriously? "Norbit" was bad with a few chuckles. "Meet Dave" looks like a laugh free embarrassment.

Norbit and Pluto Nash may be garbage and Dr. Dolittle is faceless family fare, but Murphy in The Nutty Professor is arguably his last great comedic performance. He's great as both Sherman and Buddy Love, not to mention the whole family -- I think he might have deserved an Oscar nom for that film too.

Just try not to think about the abhorrent sequel.

majorjoe23 07-10-08 07:21 AM

I'd like to see Bill Norbet's original script. I'm sure it wasn't Oscar worthy, but I bet it was funnier than the movie will be.

GradVT06 07-10-08 08:08 AM

Nice, first time I've seen that one! I always go with trusty favorite:

Exactly. Most of his family movies make lots of money. Of course, Pluto Nash and Haunted Mansion are some exceptions.

Well, he's the highest grossing actor of all time (at least if you consider major parts):

He's probably got some leeway

Dan1boy 07-10-08 09:50 AM

Eddie, please go away.

Thank you. Buh bye.

The Shrek films probably take a few days to record, right? Those films have to seriously inflate his intake. Not saying they shouldn't count, it's just that that adds over a billion dollars. Without the Shrek series, he'd be quite a few notches down the chart.

Make that 100% with 2 reviews.

homerj 07-10-08 08:15 PM

I will definitely not watch this movie.

Troy Stiffler 07-10-08 10:35 PM

What's up with the very vague TV spots? I take it that the movie is like Osmosis Jones or something (a civilization inside a person). Is that right? The TV Spot was one of the few that left me scratching my head.
