George Dzundza - Underrated Actor?
This guy...boy...this guy, when he's on the screen, lights it up. He has a special quality that makes you like the guy, in any situation. As Cobb, Chief of the Boat in Crimson Tide (1995), going by "the book," despite going against Captain Ramsey, his friend and comrade; or as John, the barkeep in 1978's The Deer Hunter, the jovial, happy-go-lucky bar owner.
Two examples out of many. He's never been nominated for an Oscar, nobody really brings him up in conversation, like, "hey, did you see the latest George Dzundza picture?" I think he is overlooked at one of our contemporary great actors, and that is a shame.
There are millions of actors out there, but when George Dzundza appears, you know him even if you don't know his name.

He's one of those reliable character actors. I thought he was great in The Deer Hunter and No Way Out. And I still laugh my ass off everytime he goes off on Michael Douglas in Basic Instinct("You f-cked her! G-ddamn dumb son of a bitch, you f-cked her!").

Charles Durning does TV now, too, instead of films. And I think Mr. Durning is also an underrated actor as well. Sometimes, when age catches up to ya, TV is an easier outlet.

Yeah, he's a character actor, nothing more. He's not the type for a leading man kind of role.
And BTW, his name was COB in Crimson Tide, short for Chief of the Boat. It was a nickname, not his character's name.
