Tell Me About 'Mongol'?...

I saw this in the Oscars, first i had heard of it.

I see this YT vid

and I'm stoked.

I see some things about June 6th, is that US release date? I saw on IMDB it was out in Russia in Sept. '07.

Whats the story here? why does this clip have dual audio? Is there any DVD release?

Anybody know anything?

I really want to see this one as well. It's all over the net, but I'd much rather find a DVD or see it on the big screen.

It will be released in the US on June 6th, 2008 in a limited theatrical release.

If anyone has any other info i would appreciate it.

Every review I have read has been very positive.

I thought the clip at the Oscars looked pretty badass. Definitely a film I want to check out.

it tries to hard to be a violent war film, but nearly all the character developement and plot are on autodrive (and predictable) - it obviousily tries to pander to US filmmaking styles and devices - which suffice to say doesn't really work to the film's advantage.

C- in my book.

That is literally the first negative review I've seen.

Thise is supposedly the first of a trilogy. The second one will have all the warring, the third will be the downfall.

I really disliked it despite staring Tadanobu Asano who I generally like. The set battle pieces made me think of Braveheart on a constrained budget. The love story seemed very modern and ahistorical to me. Actually I can't think of anything good to say about this one at all.

He has a forehead like a drive-in movie theater, but he's a good shit, so we don't bust his chops too much.

I thought it was great, perhaps a bit overlong, but overall pretty engaging, and I thought Tadanobu Asano did a fine job. It isn't an war action film, which is one way in which the trailers are a bit misleading, there are big battle scenes, but they are only for punctuation.

I'm in the minority (for here), but I really liked this movie. Just saw it on a big beautiful screen this past weekend and I couldn't wait to see it again (or see more) as soon as it was over.

I know next to nothing about the history of Ghengis Khan, so I couldn't say if it was historically accurate or not, but I really liked it.

It was a really good movie, although I will concede that Yakuza Bengoshi's points have merit. It does make me happy to hear it's a trilogy since I felt a little ripped off that it only covered the creation of the Mongol empire.

Two people here didn't like Mongol, and that's like, you know, their opinion man... but they are in the very small minority of people who didn't really like this film.

Almost everything I hear is good reviews, including how fantastic the action sequences are, from some of the most reliable critics there are. And it was Oscar nominated.
A ferocious film, blood-soaked, pausing occasionally for passionate romance and more frequently for torture. As a visual spectacle, it is all but overwhelming, putting to shame some of the recent historical epics from Hollywood. - Roger Ebert
The action sequences here are first-rate, the performances are uniformly excellent, the cinematography as good as I’ve seen in any film this year. - Richard Roeper
87% on tomatoes.

the action scenes were over the top in my opinion.

and? so... just because it was Oscar nominated doesn't mean it's good, even Beaufort wasn't all that...

Time Out New York didn't care for this either, but of course they are really anal about what's a good movie.
