Get Smart News!

'Heroes' Hiro Leads 'Smarter' Sequel Oka also books passage to 'Quebec' April 24, 2007 "Get Smart" has only begun production, but Warner Bros. is already planning a quickie companion featuring "Heroes" co-star Masi Oka. http://www.zap2it.com/media/photo/2007-04/29280877.jpg According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oka and Nate Torrence ("Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip") play supporting roles in "Get Smart," which features Steve Carell as Agent Maxwell Smart and Anne Hathaway as Agent 99. "Get Smart" will finish production this summer for Warner Bros. and "Get Smarter: Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control" would begin production immediately. "Get Smart" is scheduled to open in June of 2008 and the trade paper says that "Get Smarter" will premiere on DVD 10 days later and will feature parallel content to the feature. In "Get Smart," Oka plays Bruce, a CONTROL techie, while Torrence plays Lloyd, an analyst at the spy agency. Oka, breakout player Hiro on NBC's "Heroes," has also booked a supporting role in Dimension's "Quebec." Oka will play a newly added character in the film, which marks screenwriter Steve Conrad's ("The Weather Man") directing debut. The HR says that "Quebec" finished shooting last year, but that Dimension was encouraged enough by the early footage to order additional scenes and subplots, whatever that means. I searched and couldn't find a current thread on Get Smart (the last one was back in 2003  ) This companion DVD is a pretty interesting idea. Chris |
I checked out the supporting cast for Get Smart on the IMDB:
Spoiler:
That is some inspired casting! I am officially excited to see it. |
Steve Carell as Agent Maxwell Smart and Anne Hathaway as Agent 99 |
Don Adams was nine years older than Feldon. More importantly, 99 was an adult (33 years old when the series started) ... Hathaway, though she is 24, still seems like a kid. 99's maturity served as a needed check against Smart's usual cluelessness. And Carrel is almost 20 years older than Hathaway. I read some speculation based on a script that
Spoiler:
Still, the other casting seems good. OT, what is the best casting for one of these TV series movie remakes (not considering the overall quality of the movie)? I'd have to say: The Addams Family The Beverly Hillbillies |
Addams Family and Brady Bunch fit like a glove imho.
|
No Hymie? Don't see Agent 13 listed either. They should use the 13 gag one time in the movie with an uncredited cameo by mega-superstar.

Steve Carell is obviously in "bombard us with your presence until we're sick of seeing your face" mode.
I guess he fits the Don Adams role alright, but I'm getting awful tried of him already (and I actually like Steve Carell) |
Looks extraordinarily "meh." I used to love the TV show but that was solely because of Adams.
|
They had me at Anne Hathaway running.
|
love the show, but not too jazzed about the movie.
|
It looks like it could be good.
But it also looks like it could be bad. But I like Steve Carell, and I like the original series, so I may just give this thing a shot. |
Probably one of those trailers where you've already seen the funniest bits. Oh well, I loved the show....I'm sure I'll check it out!
|
Not too impressed with the trailer...

So I guess Anne Hathaway is playing Catherine Zeta and The Rock is Samuel L. Chang, right?;) |
Hope the full length trailer is better, that teaser did absolutely nothing for me...
|
Hope they didn't spend $200 million on this one.
Used to love the TV show when I was a kid, still waiting for it on DVD (in stores, I know Timelife released a "Complete Series" set) but why, why, why do we need a movie? Steve Carrell is alright but you high quality NBC Comedy main star guys (Jason Lee, Steve Carrell & Zach Braff) stick to the the Hilarious TV shows! I admit that sounds stupid because they are getting payed alot of money but esp. Zach Braff, Scrubs is one of the greatest comedies in television history in my opinion (& everyone already knows this I know) but your better with Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison, John C. McGinley & the rest of the cast with you then you are on your own. Anne Hathaway? why, good lord, NO! :hairpull: |

You have to fit that into every post don't you? |
Director Peter Segal doesn't exactly have a great track record (yes, a lot of his films have made money, but there's not one I would consider a "good" movie)...I do think Carell is the best possible choice for Maxwell Smart, though. I'll probably wind up seeing this, but am not setting my expectations very high.
|
I thought the teaser looked okay. I loved the show way back when.
After the Even Almighty disaster, the draw of Steve Carell might've been seriously overestimated. He has huge shoephones to fill. Did you see what I did there? ShoePHONES I said! |

As long as it's stupid funny I think I'm gonna love this. Cracked up at the 'element of sursprise!!' line. If it's anything like Naked gun I'm all over it.
|
I love the original show, and I do think Carell is capable of pulling off the Maxwell Smart character, but he has some very large shoe-phones to fill.
BTW, here's a link to a better version of the teaser: http://pdl.warnerbros.com/wbmovies/g...easer_1000.mov |
