Awesome movie. Saw it five-or-so times in the theater. It was especially memorable, as it was the first PTA pic that I got to see in theaters. I hadn't become a fan until Magnolia came out on DVD. Then I bought Boogie Nights and Hard Eight - and love them all to death.
The akward charm, quick flow and fun visuals make it a very easy to watch movie. PTA founds something neat to do with the composition at every turn - and it was all cohesive. The movie just looks so good. There's something there - constantly. In example, when Sandler gets to HI and calls Watson on the payphone - Watson picks up, and the payphone's light turns on. I love that stuff. PTA (and crew) really have a knack for placing and timing stuff like that. It's kind of like watching a really good music video, minus the 'flash'. You make it fun - you make it romantic - ad some Mormon violence - you leave me a little teary eyed by the end - you got me. I actually worked at a movie theater when PDL came out - and recall getting TONS of people walking out an getting refunds in the first 20-or-so minutes. I was told that there were even more people who walked out of Magnolia. |
Dear Kim. You need Jesus. Did you know that Jesus was Jewish and he loves the Jewish people so very much? Be nice and read your bible. I stopped enjoying my Cuban coffee when I saw that Mr. Deeds was on the worst list. How can Mr. Deeds be on the worst list? I mean really a water fountain with Hawaiian punch is just genius. Personally, when I am rich I want one with Hawaiian Punch and another with YooHoo. The old guy with the "safe!" hand movements is PRICELESS Priceless priceless. Oh the mean lady Winona (I mean Kim), there is always a mean lady when there is a good guy in the picture. Isn't that right Kim? But in the movie she turned out to be good because she proved her love for the leading man. What about Spanglish? What a beautiful story of a very ambitious little girl who just wanted some good life. If you look carefully, the story is about the little girl because if it was about them two they would have ended up together destroying everyone around them, as such are Hollywood movies. You didn’t even mention the character Christina Moreno in your review. Every decision the mother made was taking her daughter into consideration and on doing what is right and wrong. Character. Another one of my favorites - Big Daddy? Wow you really are heartless, but don’t fret Jesus died for us – yes you too can be forgiven if you repent and ask Jesus Christ to come into your heart today. You missed the boat completely with this movie girl, and being a woman I cannot understand how you did. This movie is about a guy who needs to deal with the seriousness of having a full grown kid just come into his life. Sure he messes up in the beginning but that’s the beautiful part, watching his stumbles and mistakes along the way and being able to laugh about it. Was there anything cuter than him dressing himself in scuba gear so the kid would bathe? Not to mention, what a fine gentleman he turned out to be. With all due respect have you thought of asking the people that matter about Adam Sandler movies? You know the ones who choose movies and purchase movie tickets and rent/buy DVDs? I know it may be difficult for you to comprehend, but yes those people exist. *Those people are the ones who decide if Adam Sandler and his movies entertain them* Adam Sandler is an entertainer, not some rag you decide to wave around for personal reasons, as the media often does with famous people. You didn't even comment on the characters in all of his movies. What other actor's personal heart have you seen in a movie just by his choices? Seriously, aside from Adam Sandler is there anyone funnier than Rob Schneider? I just saw Click this week (yeah yeah I am behind so what I saw it) and I am still laughing. Perhaps I have good taste? We know who Adam's friends are just by watching his movies, they are the same actors in all of his movies. Have you taken the time to notice that? For me personally, that says a lot about him as a person, he is loyal and cares about those close to him because he gives them work. I am sorry but I have not seen anyone else do that in Hollywood. Will you give me work Kim? I didn't think so Kim. When was the last time you helped someone you cared about? Or anyone for that matter… Now you couple his personal touch with just plain ol guy humor and great 80s music, and you will have success because it is Pure Entertainment. Adam's movies portray just a guy with a playful goofy heart and a mischievous smiling brain, not to mention a sense of humor. You are crucifying the guy and his movies for having a personality that is magnetic and long lasting. I have to ask myself... Why? PS: Are you familiar with "The Sleeper" Kim? |

PTA is not Scorsese. Never was, never will be. |
Re: "Punch-Drunk Love" - Where's the love?
Is there a thread for Punch-Drunk Love on here? A main movie talk thread from 2002?
I have searched for a while and can't find the main one. Could someone post a link, please? :) |
