Indiana Jones 5 And Beyond: What do you want to see?

Which historical artifacts could act as compelling MacGuffins for future installments? Would you mind if the MacGuffin were completely fictional? Who should the villains be: Communists, post-WWII Nazis, Illuminati or a smaller scale group? Would you mind seeing Sallah and/or Short Round again? What would a Mutt Williams spin-off series be: a continuation of Indiana Jones (focusing on ancient artifacts) or a different beast entirely (perhaps running with the sci-fi / paranormal angle setup in KOTCS)?

Great thread idea!

I was thinking about this after I watched IV and was left wanting more Indy stories. I would like it to stay with artifacts, but instead of a foreign enemy, how about fighting against a zealous US official?

Something like the CIA director is totally gung-ho on becoming technologically superior to the Russians and wants Indy to find the legendary machines of Atlantis? You could have the love interest be for Mutt as he goes on the adventure. Tie into it the fact that Indy wants the machine because he wants to reclaim the lost time he's had with Mutt and Marion to break the cycle that his father and he had in regards to not being around with the family.

I say keep with the religious artifacts and have Indy chasing after the Spear of Destiny.

I also have no problems with ideas previously mentioned: Atlantis and The Fountain of Youth are a couple of good possibilites.

Is the Fountain of Youth story too similar to the Grail?

Otherwise, the Fountain of Youth McGuffin might be a good way to end the series, given Indy's age.

Just a thought but considering that the next possible film would be set on the 50s or beyond, wouldn't looking for archeological/religious artifacts be something that's not really a part of that era? I understand the fascination during the 20s to the 40s when archeologists are going to all these expeditions around the world, but the 50s & 60s would almost be at the height of the cold war/communist menace.

Then again, Indy could look for Noah's Ark in Mount Ararat. I think at that time, the political atmosphere kept any expedition from actually happening. In addition, stories of the "great flood" has existed in respective Jewish, Christian & Islamic bibles. The problem is what supernatural occurence would finding the ark cause?

Indiana Jones and the Raiders Of That Other Ark?

Somehow I think the public would be really confused.

I do too. I like my Indy to be a globe-trotting clue finder, so I think a search for the lost city of Atlantis would be an awesome idea. Lucas got his wish with the sci-fi B-movie inspired Indy 4, so give the fans back what they want. A classic Indy tale, correctly shot/lighted, no CG animals and make it count. I'd love to see another Indy flick, but it can't be done like Indy 4.

They should bring in a Red Chinese villian like Wo Fat on Hawaii-50. Search for the sword of Genghis Khan. Any Alexander the Great lost/legendary artifacts. Native American artifacts/legends. A golden totem pole imbedded with jewels or something. The old serials of 30s-50s had them looking for all kinds of cool stuff. I remember one that had the heroes and villians trying to get an old native american woven rug that was a map to an ancient treasure ship of Genghis Khan or someone hidden in the pacific northwest.

I think they will make one more Indiana Jones movie and then pass the torch to Shia. Personally, I don't really want to see another movie with Ford OR Shia, simply because I was satisfied with the franchise having an actual conclusion for Jones.

However, knowing Lucas and Hollywood, it seems inevitable that we will get one more "Indiana Jones and..." movie, at the end of which the series is handed over to Shia, to start a spin-off "Mutt Williams (Jones) and..." franchise. I hope that doesn't happen, but if it does (which I think it will) I hope they just space them all apart appropriately in the Indiana Jones Universe.

Back to the thread though (and assuming we have many more Indiana Jones/Mutt Williams films in the future) I would definitely like to see Short Round back sometime. Apparently he himself became and archaeologist, so it'd be cool to see him grown up with some experience under his belt...pairing up with Mutt perhaps? I think the Lost City of Atlantis could be kind of boring, because I am not sure how much they could do with Indy on a boat in the Atlantic. If they could pull it off though, I'd be all for it. Or maybe something in Japan.

May I interest you in Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, or Last Crusade? Because those are the only Indy films you're gonna get without Shia.

I have no issues with Shia.

I think Jones should take on the island from Lost.

I don't know how to beef it up with a plot, but prior to the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I thought it would be interesting to see Indy go after his father's ashes urn.

I would've enjoyed seeing a "mummy" movie made with Indiana Jones: Egypt. Pyramids. Elaborate booby trapped passages. Hidden tombs. A mummy shuffling around Brody's museum at night. Indiana Jones fighting a mummy. All kinds of awesome.

It might not fly with the 50's setting. But I always wanted to see Indy take on a Cthuhlu type cult.
