Longest time between SEQUELS?

Off the top of your head, which movie franchise has had the longest amount of time between sequels?

I'll start:

I think

Last Picture Show (1971) --> Texasville (1990) = 19 years

Any others?

There was a sequel to Birth of a Nation made in 1917. It's lost, though.

My money is on Blues Brothers and Blues Brothers 2000. That's 18 years for a legitimate sequel.

fumanstan 05-28-08 07:47 PM

Ah, you're right! Cool! I lose :(

Hulkabrgr 05-28-08 07:55 PM

Psycho and 2. 1960 and 1983

Rockmjd23 05-28-08 08:01 PM

No, it's:

The Birth of a Nation 2: Afterbirth

Boba Fett 05-28-08 09:19 PM

Wizard of Oz and Return to Oz: 46 years.

PopcornTreeCt 05-28-08 09:29 PM

All these sequels are blasphemies!

Except for The Color of Money.

Numanoid 05-28-08 09:47 PM

Superman II (1980)
Superman Returns (2006)

Yes, it counts.

eiker_ir 05-28-08 09:52 PM

One more that just occured to me.

Wizard of Oz-1939
Return to Oz- 1985

story 05-29-08 06:59 AM

What about a sequel from the same production team? I don't think the same people who did The Wizard of Oz were involved with Return to Oz. Except for Paul Newman and the novel basis connection, I don't think The Hustler and The Color of Money have any mutual production artists. Hmm...

Goldberg74 05-29-08 07:56 AM

<---- Still waiting for History of the World Part II to come out. ;)

Doesn't look like it set any records, but probably deserves a mention:

The Freshman (1925)
The Sin of Harold Diddlebock (1947)
