I can only wonder the length of this thing. 2 hours something I'd assume.

The name of the song is named just a few posts above you.

Most anticipated of the year behind TDK

Brain Stew 06-18-08 10:18 PM

I'm wondering how they can turn a 10 page short story into a full-length feature. Especially when the trailer gives away most of the story arc.

My thoughts exactly. Exactly.

The teaser does summarize the movie, but this is one of those films where it's more about the journey itself than being surprised by what happens. It reminded me a lot of the Forrest Gump trailer the way it was constructed(no coincidence that Eric Roth wrote the screenplays for both).

Solid Snake 06-19-08 08:10 AM

I've just read the short story. I see some differences for sure...but I wonder what else they've changed just on what the story is, not add to. I don't mind the additions, I just want to know the changes. And it looks like the beginning of the short story has been changed for possibly a more believable start.

Looks like this will be one of the most unique films of the year, that's for sure. If this were done by anyone other than Fincher I'm not sure how high my interest would be. His name will sell me on anything at this point.

Review of test screening. Looks intriguing, though the comparisons to Forrest Gump, The Notebook and Big Fish were somewhat alarming.

Low quality TV spot

The screenplay reminded me of Big Fish. In that sense that "Benjamin" worked in all the ways that Big Fish failed.

While I thought it would be difficult, perhaps impossible for Fincher to surpass his work on Se7en and Fight Club, he knocked it out of the park with Zodiac and looks like he might be in even more rarified form with TCCOBB.

Wow. I can't wait to see this film.

chris_sc77 08-20-08 05:42 PM

Well it's official. Fincher has made his first movie to not be R-rated.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is rated PG-13 for brief war violence, sexual content, language and smoking.

Now that deserves an R rating...for retarded.

Just finished watching the trailer a little bit ago. The folks involved are almost always can't-miss, so I'll give the short story a read and prepare for this in December.

Looks like a good one.

I really thought David Fincher is one of those great directors that has only improved in recent years.

exactly, he has been putting out movies with style and substance that don't seem like some former hot director trying to impress.

Although chris_sc77 would beg to differ, apparently Paramount is weary of the film's reported 3 hour run time.

Last I checked, wasn't their big-ass moneymaking Best Picture winner of 1997 3 hrs and 14 minutes long?

* Granted, Titanic and Benjamin Button are two completely different tales, but still.

Brack 09-02-08 06:32 PM

I wouldn't worry about the length too much. Isn't this supposed to be an epic tale?

Good lord, is that article ridiculous. "But is Fincher jealous of Steven Soderbergh's four-hour Che?" Yeah, I'm sure he's stewing in his editing room trying to figure out how he can pad out his movie to be as long as Soderbergh's. The movie should be as long as it needs to be. Zodiac was 2 1/2 hours long (the DC was even longer) and never felt too long. I bet this is some idiot executive at Paramount saying "the book is only 65 pages long, why is the movie 3 hours? I don't understand."

MBoyd 09-26-08 02:03 PM

I just found a graphic novel of the story at Barnes and Noble. Looks pretty cool. Definitely something not endorsed by Fincher and riding the coattails of the movie, but I picked it up anyway.

Longer Full Trailer

I think this will be my first Christmas movie outing.

Solid Snake 09-27-08 12:16 AM

Kinda odd for this film to be PG-13...especially for a Fincher film.

ardathbey 09-27-08 04:26 AM

This film looks amazing, again it is easily the one I am looking forward to seeing more than any other this year.

Is there anything remotely "Fincher looking" from what we have seen? (Not that its a bad thing, just an observation).
