I wonder if Iron Man will be able to beat Caspian to claim #2 again?

Pretty good start for Indy. I'm sure it'll explode today, Sat and Sun. I'll conservatively say $90m for 3-day, $135m for 4-day.

I went to the early showing and it was 80% full. Usually there'll be 10 people.

I doubt it. I mean all movies have short shelf lives anyway, and drop prett fast. What was Ironman's second week? Fifty percent less than Week 1? Indi may not do that good (particularly since it's opening on a Holiday weekend), but we're not talking about hated movies like the Hulk or Tomb Raider.

Hmmm...Looks like maybe 125 to 130 million for the 5 day weekend (Thurs. Through Monday.)
Pretty good grosses. Narnia is gonna have a 60% drop which is not good at all. Iron Man is still holding up pretty well against Indy surprisingly and is gonna do about 20 million Fri. thru Mon. I would not be surprised if Iron Man Outgrosses Indy now.

It'll be closer to $150 million. Indy will have $125 million by Sunday night and can easily earn at least $20 million on Monday.

Narnia should have stuck with December, when the release plate is far less crowded.

Iron Man is making an absolute killing.

Real good news for Indy, the last Star Wars film dropped dramatically from it's early opening so I was interested to see if this would have a different appeal.

So by the end of this weekend, Marvel will have already recouped half of what they borrowed from Merrill Lynch for the Iron Man and Hulk movie. Even if Hulk doesn't make $200 million (which it probably won't), they pretty much already will turn a profit when you factor in dvd sales and such. Smart move, Marvel. Smart move.

Are they handling international rights as well? It has made $207m overseas for a grand total of $445m.

And don't forget "Postal"! It made $1,612 on 13 screens yesterday. Ouch. A $124 per theater average.

What happened to all the people Uwe Boll was claiming wanted to see the movie?

What does this mean for the 3rd film? They're already in pre-production on it with filming set to start soon, right? Will they pull the plug on it this late in the game, or can they try and salvage the 3rd one in hopes of winning back the audience?

^Depends on international Box office. I would say (unfortunately) they will probably do a 3rd film.
Its not like this is doing Golden Compass numbers its still gonna do around $150 million in US theaters. However thats only half what the first film made and this one cost more to make so it could go either way if International box office ends up like the domestic box office and only winds up with half of what the first film did. Clearly audiences were not wanting more Narnia.

3rd film is already being made, and I'm glad as it's the one chapter of the "saga" I actually want to see. The second book has always been the worst, by far.

First movie was boring, hear the second is worse and have no interest in seeing it. The drop will hurt, but it'll still make enough to get the 3rd out, but I wouldn't expect a 4th until well after the 3rd as they'll likely take that as a time to re-evaluate.

Plus, Christian tales probably do better closer to the holidays, I'm surprised they didn't just push this one back a little further, trying to compete with the big boys. That said, it has made about $96m so far (worldwide).

I know this is pretty much off topic but I just saw that June 20th will bring us two new big budget comedies. Get Smart From WB and The Love Guru from Paramount. Can both these comedies do good box office? Or will Paramount once again kick the shit out of another pricey WB film. I know I will probably see Get Smart in theaters (The Bill Murray fan in me might have to) but probably pass on Love Guru. However I think most people will flock to Love Guru and something is telling me Love Guru will open with at least $30 million but Get Smart will only do about $13 million. This summer is just WAAYYYYYY too overcrowded with big budget comedies. Yet another reason I think Sex and City will do well is cause ts the first out of the gate next week (Well, 2nd I guess if you are including What happens in Vegas...).
