Marvel announces release dates....

Marvel Studios Sets Four More Release Dates!
Source: Yahoo! Finance May 5, 2008

Marvel Entertainment released their first quarter report to its shareholders this morning to coincide with the announcement about the success this past weekend of Marvel Studios' first production Iron Man, which grossed an estimated $100.7 million domestically and over $200 million worldwide. The announcement included an update of Marvel Studios' feature film slate with the already-rumored Iron Man 2 announced for a release on April 30, 2010, followed by three more movies for the summers of '10 and '11. Matthew Vaughn's Thor is set for a release on June 4, 2010, and The First Avenger: Captain America (the working title) will kick off the summer of 2011 on May 6, followed by the highly-anticipated and foreshadowed The Avengers scheduled for July 2011. (Edgar Wright's Ant-Man is also listed as being in development with no release date set.)

With that in mind, one can start expecting a lot more announcements in the coming months about creative teams and casting for those movies including who might direct the Captain America and Avengers movies. (Whomever plays Steve Rogers AKA Captain America presumably will be making two movies at once.)

There will be a webcast for investors at 9AM Eastern at www.Marvel.com/webcasts where the same information should be relayed

Not sure how accurate, but IMDB has Nick Cassavetes listed as directing Captain America. But they have a 2009 release. Too bad we have to wait until 2011. :(

I was wondering when we'd see the announcement for Captain America and The Avengers. Should be interesting to see how they pull it all off and if Robert Downey Jr. will be involved with both Iron Man and Avengers. It'll definitely be keeping him busy for a while.

Artman 05-05-08 09:23 AM

Kinda wish they'd complete an Iron Man trilogy first, but two ain't bad. Avengers is sooner than I thought... I know next to nothing about any of these but if they're as good as Iron Man it should be fun.

majorjoe23 05-05-08 09:39 AM

I'm surprised to see Vaughan's Thor listed so soon. Last I heard the budget for the script as written would be something like $300 million, and they were trying to cut it in half.

RDJ would most likely reprise his role in the Avengers as well, as well as Thor (and possibly Hulk)

fumanstan 05-05-08 10:42 AM

Interesting, I'm sure Iron Man's huge success pretty much fast forwarded these.

Iron Man is one of the founding members of the Avengers, very important to that team.

superdeluxe 05-05-08 10:49 AM

So lets cast Thor and Captain America.

Shannon Nutt 05-05-08 11:36 AM

Anyone know if Marvel is doing a modern-day Captain America or a WWII Captain America? I'd love to see the latter, but given that Avengers film, I'm assuming it's modern-day.

Maybe a WWII captain america, frozen in ice, rescued by Avengers?

devilshalo 05-05-08 11:39 AM

And these are just the Marvel financed ones, correct?

When the hell is Ray Park's Iron Fist and all of the other ones Artisan was supposed to do?

And to have Hulk part of the Avengers means there needs to be at least 1 more film about Banner learning to control the Hulk.

I believe all of these will be created with marvel studios (Iron man and the new hulk being the first two movies)

majorjoe23 05-05-08 11:47 AM

I think the Artisan deal has expired. I haven't heard a mention of the Ray Park Iron Fist deal in years. My guess is it isn't happening.

Matthew Ackerly 05-05-08 12:33 PM

I wonder if Ed Norton will reprise his role of Banner in the Avengers after the debacle he had with Marvel?

I hope so.

devilshalo 05-05-08 12:46 PM

If it's Hulk with Banner's mind, they really wouldn't need Banner, would they?

I believe Norton had a contract for atleast 2 sequels the Hulk, so I would say it's more than likely.

These titles definitely got me pumped, but on a different note, I was really hoping for a Gambit or Deadpool announcement. :(
