Looks like Harold and Kumar 2 will clear almost as much this weekend as the first movie did in its entire domestic run.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall looks like it'll clear around $11 million, which is very good. I think it'll reach $50 million.

Not a ton of kids movies out now, so it has had pretty good legs.

about 6 weeks or so (March 14th) so close enough. CG Family flicks generally do pretty well, didn't hurt that it was critically well received.

Hope Sarah Marshall sticks around for a little while. Kind of weird Universal decided to release two comedies like that.

Damn 21 made a chunk of change. I guess it pays to release your movie when nothing is out.

Ugh, i'm not. Baby Mama looked terrible from the previews. Amy Poehler's character looks like she should be slapped.

If I wanted to watch Baby Boom and The Odd Couple, I'd... well, I'm sure you know where I am going with this.

I'll be one of the few not to stick my nose up to the comic genius of the underrated Harold and Kumar.

I loved the first Harold and Kumar, but this one just looked stupid.

Wow, Baby Mama and Harold & Kumar? Insert lame diatribe about the human race's taste in movies.

A lot of people said that about the first one with it's (awful) theatrical trailer.

Unlike most people, I was one of the ten people that saw the original during it's theatrical run and loved every minute of it. 2004 was a great year for comedies with most of those films unfortunately tanking their opening weekend (EuroTrip and The Girl Next Door also come to mind) mostly because of two reasons.

1) The studio didn't know how to market it.
2) The audience playing the "arrogant" card and looking the other way.

If pieces of shit like Wedding Crashers and Meet the Spartans can make gangbusters in the domestic market, why not other comedies that are (vastly) superior?

Don't get me started that Forgetting Sarah Marshall won't gross $100 million out of it's theatrical run unlike Apatow's last efforts. Not as funny, but much smarter and heartfelt than the rest.

On a side note, I would just like to add that I saw a free screening of Harold and Kumar a week or two before it opened and it was one of the lowest attended free screenings I've ever witnessed. Next to ironically The Girl Next Door and the shitfest Danny Deckchair (ugh).

And I also paid to see Girl Next Door and Harold and Kumar in their theatrical run and everyone who tagged along thanked me for it.

Non-Apatow comedies don't have me plunking down my money at the box office. Everything else just seems tame and I get a "wait for the DVD" vibe.

'Mama' was ok. Wasn't very inspired but didn't offend me with awfulness. And to those questioning the drab being released and topping the BO this week should remember what time of year it is and what starts with Iron Man.

You people making fun of Harold and Kumar will be eating your words in a few years when you see the movie and realize your judgment on them is completely wrong.

Don't worry, we can't all know about the good movies early on. Some of us end up watching them on cable years later.

All this shows me is that this past weekend was a desert for good movies. If a genre comedy from a semi-talented writer and performer (Fey) and a talentless wasteful excuse for a human being like Poehler can make it number 1 at the box office then there is hope for anyone with a digital camera who makes home movies.

If there is one thing i know to avoid in a movie these days its having any current or recent member of SNL in its cast. The cast of the series used to be great in the 90s, but once Will Ferrell left that was it. This movie just looked horrible.

Lets see how they all do against Iron Man. There will be justice and a quality movie will hit the top spot next weekend.

What time of year doesn't matter, there is already better fare out there to check out.
