Matthew McConaughey offered role of Magnum P.I.
Discuss. Does anyone think this is a good choice? I really have a hard time seeing him as Thomas Magnum.

How about this for perfect casting: EW.com has learned that Matthew McConaughey has been offered the role of Thomas Magnum in Universal Pictures' adaptation of Magnum P.I., based on the successful '80s television show that starred Tom Selleck. The character, a former Navy Seal turned reluctant detective, seems a sweet match for the laid-back actor. McConaughey, we're told, is reading the script from writer/director Rawson Thurber (Dodgeball) and will decide shortly. Now the burning questions: Will he grow a mustache for the role? And will our Hawaiian shirts suddenly be cool again? Developing ...

I hate Matthew McConaughey with a passion. Out everyone in Hollywood right now who claim to be actors, he's the worst on my list.
Looks like I won't be seeing this now.
They should have just got Josh Brolin. He has a mustache.

He's talented. He's just not making the right movies right now.
This would be a good casting. Brolin is a poor choice, the goal is to capture a younger and more female audience, obviously.

Perfect casting, IMHO.
Brolin wouldn't be a bad choice, but keep in mind that growing a mustache isn't an acting talent so it shouldn't be a consideration when casting. Also, I'm not sure Brolin has the comic chops for this role.

I think he's a pretty good choice. Certainly better then when he was cast as Dirk Pitt in Clive Cussler's Sahara. Talk about shitty casting.
And NO 'STACHE, NO SALE.

Not a huge fan, Not a huge Hater, but I must admit this is not that bad of a choice. He will fit in with the scenery, it will give him plenty of chances to take his shirt off, he can handle that fun action style. Give us the stash

Agree, he has the qualities that the character needs.

it's not such a bad choice...
Matthew could do it well, WITH the 'stache that is...
Magnum was more comic and yet could turn on that dramatic edge...
"Ivan?... yes?... did you see the sun rise this morning?... yes, why?..."
man that episode... i remember that after all these years...
oh and that cat who blinked before he struck...
"don't do it... nobody's that fast..."

I think it's gonna be weird seeing Matthew in a "serious" role, since he is always doing lovey-dovey movies..but this might be a nice change from "Fool's Gold" or whatever else he has recently been in.
