What movie is this line from?

"Thanks for the dance."

Okay, this has been bothering me for a couple hours now and I simply can't figure it out. The answer is pretty much on the tip of my tongue, but I can't think of who is in it (which would definitely help figure it out, I'm sure). But here's the set-up:

Someone is walking and there's another person in their way, and whenever they move the other person moves too. After finally getting by, the person says, "Thanks for the dance." I feel like it's a recent movie, but anything's possible, I reckon.

So anyone have any ideas?

I think it's a fairly common line/setup... I think it was even used in CSI last week IIRC.

Dammit, I can't think of the movie. it's not too old, and I'm pretty sure it was a guy and a girl, maybe in their 30s, and I'm pretty sure the guy probably liked the girl or something, but heck, I can't remember. Crap, this is going to bug me.

Now that you mention it, that sounds about right.

Of course, I've only seen 1408 once and I wasn't really paying attention.

I've never seen 1408, although I did think it was John Cusack for a minute. Then again, I also could picture Vince Vaughn saying it. But I don't think it's either.

Hmm.

I remember it from Freaks and Geeks when Harris and Lindsay are trying to pass each other in the hallway.

I haven't seen Freaks and Geeks since it came out on DVD, and this seems like something much more recent. But both my friend and I have seen this show, and she's the one that brought it up, so that's entirely possible. Although another friend of mine, who has never seen the show, also remembers this exchange. He thinks it's Juno, but I doubt that. Even if it seems like something she might say.

I just don't know...

Wasn't there a scene in Jersey Girl between Ben Affleck & Will Smith like that? I haven't watched the whole movie but for some reason I remember something like that between them.

Was it in Italian? Because it could have been Franco Brusati's Bread and Chocolate (1973). It had the protagonist disguised himself as a Swiss and contentedly walking on a sidewalk. He bumps into a real Swiss man, they hesitate, he offers a quick dance and finishes by saying "thanks for the dance."

This might be it afterall. And rather than drive myself crazy trying to find something else it might be in that I've seen, I am accepting this as the answer.

Goodnight.

If you want to confirm it's about halfway into the second episode when Lindsey is already "Drunk". I'd give an exact time but my copy is being borrowed by a friend.
