This ain't even close. I like "The Thing" - it's definately among the best movies of the '80's - but "Alien" spawned an entire franchise of awesome-osity, up through "Alien vs. Predator: Requiem". Ya can't argue with them numbers!

Plus "Alien" led to the "Predalien" in AVP:R, which was one of the things I'd wanted to see for years. I have never, however, had any desire to see a "Pred-thing".

This was tough, as I have a great love for both. However, I vote "The Thing" because it didn't spawn a series of 2 good movies and 4 bad ones It stuck with one fantastic movie, still quite scary (just watched it again last week), with a solid ending.

I count Aliens as one. what's the other "good" movie?

Edit *nevermind, I guess you meant the original Alien.

Alien. For some reason, I can't really get into The Thing.

That's not necessarily a good thing.

Though I would love to see The Thing vs The Blob.

Tough call. Both films are perfect. I like Alien a little bit better though.

And yes Alien is way better than Aliens.

I gotta go with my man Kurt Russell. While the Alien is a fantastic design, the Thing is so terrifying because it can hide in plain site. It was a hard decision.... But the Thing for me.

I went with Alien, but this is a tough call. Both are excellent in nearly every category (script, action, horror, set design, make-up effects, etc). Incredibly tough call for me, as I saw both in theaters and have been a mega-fan of each since day 1.

My problem with Alien is that every film subsequent to Alien in the same vein went farther and more creatively. As someone who didn't see it until 2003, I found it kinda simple. I mean, I like and respect it, but it's remarkably straightforward. As unfair as that is to the movie, I have to say The Thing is better.

I see what you're saying, though I'll argue that a "complicated" story doesn't make it better, and also ask then, isn't The Thing just as simple?

Please elaborate and give examples.

As far as this poll, I can not vote. One is my favorite film ever, and the other is in my top 3.

Both are great in their own right. But this is no contest. "Alien" all the way for me.

It's really no contest, to be honest. I own and very much love both films but Alien is a slightly more effective film and a substantially more important and groundbreaking film.

I love both movies very much but I can't seperate myself from them enough to judge which is a better "made" film.

Since The Thing is one of my favorite movies of all time and I actually enjoy it more...
I give the edge to The Thing, strictly subjective, though.
