Both remakes rocked! I would think it would be The Thing and only by a couple hairs.

I like both but would watch the Thing many times over compared to Alien.

Bah, I love all my Aliens! Ok, ok - except Alien 4. :D Alien 1-3 were cool, though, and I went to midnite screenings for both AVP and AVPR and dug 'em. At least AVP was cooler than Alien 4, and I liked how AVPR was more like a horror movie - it was kinda like it was getting back to the horror feel of Alien, rather than the action focus that all of them since Aliens had done.

I voted Alien, but that was actually because of the cast. Alien is the coolest looking monster I've ever seen, though. My friend scored me a nifty little poster of the Necronimicon IV painting that the design was taken from. I have some cool friends. :D

I love The Thing, but Alien is GREAT! Aliens on the other hand, is overrated IMO and I would choose The Thing easily over that one...

That's a tough one but I will vote for Alien

Same here the Thing is a masterpiece... I didn't like Alien the first time I saw it but it grew on me.

This would be closest to my answer - though, I love both. Alien is a slower, moodier film and I can't just throw in anytime to watch. The Thing works better on that level.

I'm gonna go with The Thing on this one.

Hmm, this is a head-scratcher. I just watched Alien a few days ago after quite a few years, and I'd almost forgotten how good it is. The scene where Tom Skerritt flashes his light around and catches the alien right next to him still made me jump to the moon.
However, I just can't get over the stomach biting off my man's arms and the head growing spider legs in The Thing.

I'll give a razor-thin edge to Alien.

I thought they were the same movie....

although both are better films than the thing (which i do love), i'm curious what peoples preference is. alien theatrical or director's cut?

??? I thought that the theatrical version was what Ridley Scott wanted and that the director's cut was just a Fox marketing gimmick to sell more dvds?

Word.

The theatrical version is better, as it jibes well with what occurs in the alien societal make-up and alien physical evolution in later movies; although, if a sequel had never been made (ala The Thing), the extended cut would be my preference.

The original theatrical cut is better, but the (so called) "Director's Cut" is interesting if only to see a slight variation of a familiar film. (Plus it was nice to finally see Alien on the big screen when the DC got a short release a few years ago just before the DVD box came out.)

I'll take The Thing over Aliens also.

Though all three movies are top shelf genre films.

I agree, but I'd rather watch The Thing given the choice. Not as much mental investment.

Now if it's Aliens we're talking, all bets are off. At this point in my life, I could watch Aliens at any given moment.

Really, the end of The Thing drove me nuts when I was a kid. Was Childs infected or not? Finally settled on that he was. He was wearing a different coat at the end.

What is strange, is that the older I get, the less drawn I am to Aliens. I don't know why. For awhile, Aliens was equal in my eyes to A L I E N. Just seems like the older I get, the more cartoonish it becomes. I still love it though.
