need movie-related help for school project
For the Interperative Reading course I'm taking our teacher wants us to do a dramatic interpretive reading. He told us that it would be fine if he reading were either a monologue or a dialogue between two charecters, and that we could feel free to perform something that is a movie based on a play because scripts are easy to find online. Any suggestions for movies that were once plays?

You might try works by either Tennessee Williams (A Streetcar Named Desire, The Glass Menagerie, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof) or Arthur Miller (The Crucible, Death of a Salesman, All My Sons). They're all available on video in one version or another, and they all use modern English.

Sam L Jackson's "Eziekel" speech in "Pulp Fiction", or any of the banter between Travolta and Jackson throughout that movie... perhaps the "foot rub" conversation?

This is what you're looking for: http://www.americanrhetoric.com/index.htm
All the speeches have transcripts for them and the selection is great. Personally, I love Larry "the Liquidator"s speech from Other People's Money. http://www.americanrhetoric.com/Movi...neydevito.html |

Oh villains, Chiron and Demetrius. Here stands the spring whom you have stained with mud, this goodly summer with your winter mixed. You killed her husband, and for that vile fault two of her brothers were condemned to death, my hand cut off and made a merry jest, both her sweet hands, her tongue, and that more dear than hands or tongue, her spotless chastity, inhuman traitors, you constrained and forced. What would you say if I should let you speak? Villains, for shame, you could not beg for grace. Hark, wretches, how I mean to martyr you. This one hand yet is left to cut your throats whilst that Lavinia, 'tween her stumps doth hold the basin that receives your guilty blood. You know, your mother means to feast with me and calls herself Revenge and thinks me mad. Hark, villains. I shall grind your bones to dust, and with your blood and it I shall make a paste, and of the paste a coffin I will rear and make two pastries of your shameful heads. And bid that strumpet, your unhallowed dam, like to the earth, swallow her own increase! This is the feast I have bid her to, and this the banquet she shall surfeit on... And now prepare your throats. |

Try the Howard Beale monologue from Network. The one that ends with "I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!"
Would be hilarious if done well. |
Quint's Indianapolis story from "Jaws".

Anything from The Big Kahuna or Billy Crystal's show-and-tell speech from City Slickers.
