Rourke looks fantastic. Tomei looks that way, but also in the appearances department.

WOW just WOW!!

If Rourke does not get a best actor nod, the whole system is full of frauds.

Based on the trailor alone he is worthy...

Zen Peckinpah 11-21-08 06:59 PM

He has a great chance of winning too.

Man I hope he wins.

Trailer looks great. What's the Bruce Springsteen song? I should know it.. but I don't.

*Nevermind the song is called The Wrestler from Bruce's upcoming album.

This looks fantastic. Glad to see the subject of professional wrestling treated maturely in a film.

Anubis2005X 11-23-08 01:10 AM

I haven't seen much of Rourke's work, but that one scene in the trailer alone made me downright teary-eyed. Definitely looking forward to this performance...

I finally found the lyrics to the song 'The Wrestler' that Springsteen wrote for the movie.

Pretty damn good stuff I think.

Spoiler:
Have you ever seen a one trick pony in the field so happy and free?
If you've ever seen a one trick pony then you've seen me
Have you ever seen a one-legged dog making its way down the street?
If you've ever seen a one-legged dog then you've seen me

Then you've seen me, I come and stand at every door
Then you've seen me, I always leave with less than I had before
Then you've seen me, bet I can make you smile when the blood, it hits the floor
Tell me, fan, can you ask for anything more?
Tell me can you ask for anything more?

Have you ever seen a scarecrow filled with nothing but dust and wheat?
If you've ever seen that scarecrow then you've seen me
Have you ever seen a one-armed man punching at nothing but the breeze?
If you've ever seen a one-armed man then you've seen me

Then you've seen me, I come and stand at every door
Then you've seen me, I always leave with less than I had before
Then you've seen me, bet I can make you smile when the blood, it hits the floor
Tell me, friend, can you ask for anything more?
Tell me can you ask for anything more?

These things that have comforted me, I drive away
This place that is my home I cannot pay
My only faith's in the broken bones and bruises I display

Have you ever seen a one-legged man trying to dance his way free?
If you've ever seen a one-legged man then you've seen me

Anybody else hear Artie Lange's story this morning about his audition for a role in this movie?

Taken from Howardstern.com:

ARONOFSKY'S REVENGE

Artie noted that he auditioned for a part of the sleazy wrestling promoter in Darren Aronofsky's "The Wrestler" back when Nicholas Cage (and not Mickey Rourke) was set to star in the project. After a few callback auditions, all of which he felt he had killed in, Artie's agent called him and said he almost got the part, but Darren went with a different actor.

A few months later, someone reminded Artie that he'd met Darren years before at a party and had berated him mercilessly , calling him a "film school ****." Everyone speculated that the tortuous audition process could've been Darren's sick way of getting back at Artie for the incident, but Artie doubted it: "I don't believe it. I don't believe that happened. I don't believe that I slapped him around."

Of course, it's entirely possible that he didn't get the part due to a complete lack of acting ability.

WWTDD has nude pictures of Marisa Tomei from the wrestler. I know we're not allowed to post links to nudity so the website is www.wwtdd.com.

That's all we know so far. But then I guess I don't care to do the simple Google work that you aren't up for.

I would guess this depends on how well this movie does and how many screens they can get this to play on during the very crowded next 45 days.

metaridley 12-13-08 02:05 PM

This is really the only movie I want to see theatrically between now and the end of the year. I've seen all of Darren's movies and I'm not happy The Wrestler apparently isn't playing anywhere in the Phoenix area in the coming weeks.

OldBoy 12-15-08 05:58 PM

100% at RT with 35 reviews!

i really hope i get to see this somewhere soon. i've liked MR since Pope of Greenwich Village and like him in almost anything.

really thought Sin City would get him more exposure as he was just incredible in that. hope he sticks around some more, but even if we get things like SC and this once a few years than that is ok too. makes me savor his performances as great as they are.
