Re: World of Warcraft: The Movie (D: Duncan Jones)
EXCLUSIVE: Legendary Pictures and Atlas Entertainment are casting up Warcraft, the movie adaptation of the hit Blizzard videogame World Of Warcraft that Duncan Jones will direct. I’m told that Paula Patton is negotiating for a lead role, and that another lead has been offered to Colin Farrell. I’m not sure that Farrell is going to make a deal–sources said it’s 50/50–and Jones is testing other actors for the major roles. Production will begin in January and Charles Leavitt wrote the script.
The role playing game takes place in a medieval-like setting where players control avatars that take on gryphons, dragons, zombies, werewolves and elves. Time travel and alien worlds are also part of the mix. The project is one of Legendary’s biggest and was supposed to be made at Warner Bros. Since Thomas Tull’s financing/production company moved over to Universal Pictures, I expect the film to be located there as well.
Patton is the lead in the upcoming Fox Searchlight film Baggage Claim and is coming off the hits 2 Guns and Mission:Impossible–Ghost Protocol. Farrell stars with Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson in the upcoming Disney Oscar season film Saving Mr. Banks and then the Akiva Goldsman-directed adaptation of the Marc Helprin novel Winter’s Tale. Both are repped by CAA and Patton is managed by Medavoy Management’s Brian Medavoy

Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures have closed deals with Ben Foster (3:10 to Yuma), Travis Fimmel ("Vikings"), Paula Patton (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Toby Kebbell (The Counselor), and Rob Kazinsky (Pacific Rim) and are in final stages of negotiation with Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) to star in Warcraft, based on Blizzard Entertainment’s award-winning Warcraft universe.

I had zero interest in this at first, but with Duncan Jones directing? I'm in.
(yes, I know this was known many months ago, but this is my first comment in this thread.)

Re: World of Warcraft: The Movie (D: Duncan Jones)
I played WoW for like 18 days.... On dial up back in 2007. It was fun to see my friends do stuff but I didn't care for it.
I don't give a fuck about Warcraft but Jones' involvement totally got my interest.

I watched the trailer last night at Blizzcon, and while I'm biased I have to say the early footage looks really fucking cool. There was a long close up shot of an Orc and the effects are incredibly well done and I think Duncan Jones really nailed the Warcraft feel. I don't think Raimi was going to do this justice at all.

Pushed back three months: http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/366...ft-rim-2-dates
Following on from release date announcements for the "Fifty Shades" sequels and "Fast and Furious 8" earlier, Universal Pictures has also announced a shifting around of several of its other major movies in the works - some by half a year or more.
"Warcraft," Duncan Jones' 3D film adaptation of the popular "World of Warcraft" video game franchise, has been pushed back by three months and will now open in the height of next Summer - June 10th 2016.
Universal's "The Mummy," the remake of the classic Universal Monsters film, was slated to open in the same month but has now been pushed back by a whopping nine months and will open March 24th 2017.
As a result of that delay, the second and yet unannounced film in their proposed Universal Monster Cinematic Universe has been moved back a fully year and will now open March 30th 2018.
"Mena," the re-teaming of "Edge of Tomorrow" director Doug Liman and star Tom Cruise has set up camp on January 6th 2017.
Finally, the "Pacific Rim" sequel has been moved back four months and will now open August 4th 2017.

Yikes. I'm not a fan of the game but I'm interested to watch Jones career move forward... but I'm hesitant with this cast and base material. I know they have their fans, but I find Foster and Cooper extraordinarily difficult to watch, they both have an innate flamboyance that annoys the hell out of me. Could be interesting though, it wouldn't surprise me to see Foster or Cooper (or Patton) in a Uwe Boll adaptation, might be a nice compare and contrast scenario.
And it seems like it's taking a really long time for this to come out, though I guess its only been in post for a year now.

It's taken a long time, but a lot of that was because of directorial changes and script work since it was announced a long time ago with Sam Raimi originally.
I don't have any inside info about the movie, but I will say the move to summer seems to indicate a lot of faith on the movie. And I can say that a clip i've seen that was shown off at Blizzcon last year looked really, really good (despite my biased opinion ).

Cool looking and all but... I'll be impressed when I see a trailer.
I'm not impressed by cool CGI image stills.
