I knew he passed away, but I still glanced at this thread and thought it said "Rob Schneider, RIP" and said to myself "eh"

Damn shame. I didn't know the guy was in such poor health. I've been on a Roy binge since I read the news. I was about to watch something else on Sunday when I read it on Yahoo literally just as it broke. I watched Jaws. Then Jaws 2 and Blue Thunder yesterday. Tonight French Connection, then probably a couple others over the next few nights. Roy was a damn fine actor and he will certainly be missed.

I can't say I'll miss him because after the 90's he didn't do much.

What a ridiculous thing to say on so many levels.

For example, he had 23 acting gigs since 2000. Just because you didn't see any of them doesn't mean "he didn't do much".

That's one of the stupidest things I've read on here in a long time. Seriously.

The 70's were really my era for movies and Roy Scheider was certainly in a lot of the great ones.

Also thought he was great in another, smaller movie with Meryl Streep called Still of The Night (1980). He was a terrific actor with great, robust presence and a likeable personality, who will be sadly missed. Hope he didn't suffer too long.

I would have LOVED to see him as Michael Vronsky in Deer Hunter. DeNiro did good but i can really picture Scheider with the grounded toughness and stability there.

DeNiro was good but Roy would have given that feeling like his performance in JAWS where we feel the danger in his face.
