Italy ONLY has Monica Belluci. No one else. But Monica Belluci tops any girl in the world. She's number one no matter what. Whom else does Italy have, the girl from Hot Shots Part one and Part Deux?

Italian Mafia Movies are superior

As the webmaster of the mafia/crime movie site Contractflicks.com I would like to put my two cents in about whether Russian or Italian Mafia films are superior. I believe that between these two mafia movie cultures the Italian mafia movies are superior for several reasons.
1. Italian Mafia Movies have had Superior Direction
Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, Sergio Leone these are only three of the great directors that have graced Italian mafia films. These directors go down as three of the greatest directors in film history let alone Italian mafia movies. They understood the genre to a T and did their homework before composing their films to the masses and never sacrificed on their vision no matter what the studios demanded of them. These directors in my mind beat out Russian mob directors such as David Cronenberg by a large Margin.
2. Italian Mafia Movies have had Better Soundtracks
I mean the Goodfellas soundtrack alone shatters any Russian Mafia soundtrack ever made to my knowledge. This is not including The Academy Award winning Godfather Soundtracks, Casino and A Bronx Tale. Eastern Promises is close with a very cinematic soundtrack but it is not even in the league that Italian mob soundtracks have been.
3. Italian Mafia Movies have More Memorable Scripts
"I'll make them an offer they can't refuse"-Godfather," Leave the gun, take the Cannoli's"-Godfather "As far back as I can remember I've always wanted to be a gangster"-Goodfellas " The saddest thing in life is wasted talent"-Bronx Tale. I could keep going but even with all the stereotypes and cliches the Italian Mafia scripts are just more memorable with audiences in America.
These are just some of the reasons Italian mafia films supersede Russian Mafia films.

I couldn't name one famous Russian mob guy, but the Italian mob is full of icons. The Italian mafia has a history that goes way back to the Roman empire. No contest, not even close.
zOMG. Theres alot of russian music that is better than Frank Sinatra. But that is just because Frank Sinatra ain't italian enough. He might try to sing in italian but that is not italian music. And the reason why "italian mobsters" become full icons and the russians dont is because in Russia, the mob owns the media.
It's the same for the real mezzogiorno families too. Our newspapers almost never write about the Camorra, Cosa Nostra, 'ndrangheta,or Sacra Corona. This icon-thingy is an american phenomen.
But this doesnt really contribute to the thread.

And also I wouldnt place either the Godfather or Eastern Promises as top contenders on the topic. They might be good movies but they are all fictional and all "Hollywoody".
Gomorra is probably the best italian (well neapolitan to be precise) mafia movie. And Zhmurki the best russian mafia movie for sure

And to leave the topic for a while again,
Theres ALOT of good looking girls in Russia. In Italy theres only SMASHING and .. yeah.. less good looking girls. I still think the answers comes somewhere in between so I go with croatians and serbs.

Russian. They seem more psycho. The Italians would rather eat than kill.

In reality, I am way more scared of Russians that I am wiseguys (but then again three of my buddies and one of my uncle's...technically, it is my cousin's father, but he is serving life in Riker's, and I have never met him...are wiseguys, so I know how they are)...Russian gangsters and their tattoos, totally creep me out.

But when it comes to movies, the wiseguys have it. The Yakuza is a close second, but seriously, outside of a few flicks, can anyone name a mainstream Russian mob movie? Eastern Promises was awesome, but that wasn't a "true" mafia movie...in my opinion.

How about Running Scared? That showed the Russian mob but wasn't really about them.

Anyway, Italian mobsters all the way, ya mezzofinook.

Actually, Goodfellas is pretty accurate in its depiction of the Italian mafia...a bunch of lunk headed morons. Mafia films are great no matter who they are about, just as long as they have plenty of bloody hits in it (and food).

Italian mafia flicks are the best, how can you question that. One flick about another country's mafia is not enought to top Goodfellas and Godfather 2.

Anyone who actually knows about the Russian Mafia would know that Eastern Promises was about the Vor Z Zakone. The Russian Mafia and the Vor Z Zakone are complete different things. So anyone saying that Eastern Promises is not a good Russian Mob movie. Get your facts right before commenting
