Best actor under 50 years old?

...

Wolf359 02-02-08 09:09 PM

From that list, I choose Russell Crowe. This poll prompted me to look up a couple of actors, and I can't believe Tom Hanks is 52! Bosom Buddies seems like yesterday to me!

RichC2 02-02-08 09:11 PM

Christian Bale, his performance in American Psycho is one of my favorites.

TGM 02-02-08 09:12 PM

out of that list, the only one with any "range" is Edward Norton. The others just play shades of the same character (quite well, I might add) over and over again.

Quake1028 02-02-08 09:12 PM

Fucking hell, how did I forget Christian Bale? That's inexcusable on my part.

After seeing Ed Wood, Pirates, and Sweeney Todd, I have to say Johnny Depp is pretty good at playing different characters. I tend to agree with the rest of the list, though. Norton's range has been somewhat limited lately though.

No clue how you did. Inexcusable! ;). On a side note, Ledger may have been my pick if he were still alive, he proved he could play casual, upbeat (Casanova) and downbeat (Ennis) and looked to play insane (Dark Knight) pretty well, but we all know that that ended.

I also like Philip Seymour Hoffman (40). Cillian Murphy and Ryan Gosling are getting there as well.

Sweeney Todd, Jack Sparrow, Willy Wonka, Sir James Matthew Barrie, Frederick Abberline, George Jung, Ichabod Crane, Raoul Duke, Donnie Brasco, Don Juan, Ed Wood, Gilbert Grape and Edward Scissorhands are all shades of the same character -eek-? Give me a fucking break.

William Fuld 02-02-08 09:23 PM

Hugh Laurie

Mr. Cinema 02-02-08 09:38 PM

Phillip Seymour Hoffman. He's great in everything he does. Not only acts in mainstream, but still does alot of Indie work. DiCaprio would be a close second.

Will Smith is on the list?

fashionvictim86 02-02-08 09:44 PM

Johnny Depp is my second pick, but my first would be John Cusack.

I was mainly looking to fill 10 spots, and forgot about Seymour Hoffman and Bale. Although I do think that Smith is a fantastic actor.

Arpeggi 02-02-08 10:39 PM

Tony Leung Chiu Wai

Lastyear 02-02-08 10:41 PM

Sean Penn

Merkin Muffley 02-02-08 10:50 PM

Here's another for Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

Patman 02-02-08 10:58 PM

Kevin Spacey
Benicio del Toro
James Spader
Daniel Craig
Forest Whitaker

PopcornTreeCt 02-02-08 11:15 PM

I voted Russell Crowe

Flynn 02-02-08 11:23 PM

Yeah Russell Crowe all the way. He can play any part. Well.

mwbmis 02-03-08 12:00 AM

On that list...Russell Crowe

Other possibilities...

Don Cheadle
Eric Bana
Gary Oldman (just barely, but still under 50)

7.Matt Damon

My vote's for Norton.

Ronnie Dobbs 02-03-08 04:12 AM

Norton or Phillip Seymore Hoffman, Johnny Depp and Don Cheadle are all great too though.

fmian 02-03-08 05:43 AM

I voted DiCaprio, for me personally he's turned in more strikingly good performances. Special nods to Norton who needs to get back on track and wow people, Crowe who needs another epic story to work with (Best in Insider, LA Confidential & Gladiator IMO), and Clooney should definately get props for having range and being very entertaining no matter what role he plays.

OK, time to clean your Johnny Depp bed sheets, and teach me the Depp-head secrety society handshake.

To ME, Depp takes on diverse roles, but at its core, yes, to me, it's the same detached performance he gives each and every time.
