i would give this a chance because
a. I love "30 Rock" and
b. I didn't hate "Mean Girls".

Groucho 01-31-08 04:10 PM

Tina Fey didn't write this -- she's just an actor for hire.

mdc3000 01-31-08 05:08 PM

I'm wary of Michael McCullers writing and directing... I think his influence brought the Austin Powers franchise down a few notches (although I did love Undercover Brother which he co-wrote)... I'm a fan of Fey and Pohler so I'm hoping it'll be good... it's similarities to 'The Brothers Solomon' (starring Amy's husband Will) are pretty striking though.

Daytripper 01-31-08 06:55 PM

"30 Rock" AND "Mean Girls" are both great. But this.....? Looks pretty bad.

dcprules 01-31-08 07:39 PM

I heard a rumor that Steve Martin was in this flick. Does anyone know? He's not listed on the imdb cast list.

Well, the addition of Amy Poehler can only bring this to a level of quality reserved, typically, for the skin of crack addicts.

In other words, poor.

(Damn you Amy... Why must you take a mediocre-looking film, and turn it into an, um... really mediocre-looking movie?)

maingon 01-31-08 07:59 PM

I thought it looks pretty funny.

Supermallet 02-01-08 04:59 AM

I'll give it a chance.

riotinmyskull 02-01-08 05:22 AM

these are 2 of the funniest female comics working today, and i think tina fey is super hot so i'll probably see it eventually, maybe not in the theater but i'll rent it.

zombiezilla 02-01-08 06:25 AM

Terms like "baby mama" are not going to have me breaking down the door to the cineplex to get in to see it, that's for sure. Or should I say fo' shizzle?

Charlie Goose 02-01-08 08:08 AM

That looks pretty good, despite the presence of Dax Shepherd.

MT: "Is that chocolate or poop?"
MT: "Is that CHOCOLATE OR POOP?"
(licks)
MT: "Chocolate!"
TF: "What if that had been poop?!?"

Giantrobo 02-01-08 05:15 PM

Looks funny to me.

The Bus 02-27-08 02:05 PM

Looks funny. I'll see it if I'm bored.

JPRaup 02-27-08 03:28 PM

Looks absolutely awful.

thegame370 02-27-08 06:12 PM

I think i see my wife dragging me to see this.....

mdc3000 04-25-08 08:14 PM

Funny but not hilarious and really goes from A to B with no surprises. The cast is great and does there best with the material but everything from the dialogue to the music just felt uninspired. The best bits are in the trailer, with the exception of a few funny lines with swearing... the Greg Kinnear stuff worked for me and I wish he had more to do, same with Steve Martin whose character gets a few moments but felt wasted overall. A decent matinee or TV movie...but this movie's got nothing on Forgetting Sarah Marshall... the kids will like this one, but if your old enough for R rated flicks and want a rom-com type flick, pick that one instead!

FantasticVSDoom 04-25-08 11:22 PM

Amy Poehler and Romany Malco were the definite highlights of the movie, with everyone else just kinda blah... If it werent for those 2, I dont know if I would have laughed. That being said, they at least make it a decent weekend matinee flick.

AndyCleveland 04-26-08 01:08 AM

I saw this tonight and enjoyed it enough to recommend. Dax Shepherd (sp?) and Steve Martin were both pretty bad though.

kstublen 04-26-08 01:40 AM

I thought Steve Martin's character was hilarious.

Apple Gooncha 04-26-08 01:52 AM

Dax Sheppard means a no-go for me, and I don't really like Tina Fey either.

I've seen the trailer for this thing a million times, though.

Patman 04-26-08 07:41 PM

Overall, the writing for "Baby Mama" just wasn't sharp or incisive enough, and the characters just aren't all that likable. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler just aren't quite able to sustain a cinematic spark between 2 unlikely people put together through surrogacy. The conclusion was telegraphed early, and never found its comic rhythm (because it couldn't decide what was the right tone for the film, and it really languished in the middle act, and limps to a finish).

This isn't to say there aren't some funny lines and moments, there are, but they were few and far between.

I must also add that that marketing totally downplayed the appearances of Steve Martin and Greg Kinnear, and I understood why after seeing the film.

I give it 2 stars, or a grade of C.

Giantrobo 04-26-08 09:09 PM

I Just saw it and I liked it.

We think alike.

Amy Poehler doesn't get enough credit for her Upright Citizens Brigade stuff. She is consistantly funny there. People always think SNL - which has been entertaining, but not all that funny for a five or so years now.

Tina Fey has always been a standout SNL performer. And 30 Rock is a great show (one of the five or seven that I Tivo and watch every single week). And she's hot.

I might see it at the theater. If not, I'll probably just buy it on DVD.

Giantrobo 04-27-08 12:49 AM

People are always shitting on Poehler in the SNL threads but i think think she hilarious. And of course Tina Fey is awesome.
