I pretty much agree with Hot Fuzz. I enjoyed it somewhat in the beginning, but towards the middle and especially the end, it was downright awful.

I really liked Zodiac, but um, dude, it is historically accurate. It's not supposed to have sweet serial killer gunfights and stuff.

My tastes are more light hearted then most, so I actually thought movies like Chuck and Larry were fairly funny, not to mention a lot of the movies people hated over the summer like Pirates 3 or Shrek 3.

I thought Ghost Rider was pretty shitty though. Fred Claus and Golden Compass make my list too, as well as Beowulf.

Three pages in and nobody has mentioned Hannibal Rising? THERE was a bad movie. I was snickering the entire time...whoever that guy playing Hannibal was is going to go nowhere. "MEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSHHHHAAAAAAAAAAA!"

Anyway, I actually can only cite three truly awful movies I saw this year. Spider-Man 3 gets off for Bruce Campbell's cameo, enjoyed Transformers immensely, thought Death Proof and Zodiac are among my favorites for '07, avoided just about every movie remotely considered bad. Those two others are TMNT (walked out after seeing my childhood turned into a remake of Gremlins 2) and Halloween (one of the biggest misfires of the decade...Brad Dourif was the only genuinely good actor in it, and the narrative was terrible).

The worst movie I didn't see this year was Live Free or Die Hard, a movie I like to pretend doesn't exist. Nobody makes a PG-13 John McClane movie. That said, this was why I think I loved Shoot 'Em Up so much...all the bad one-liners, Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti's greatness, and its lack of seriousness. It was the lone R-rated action movie that succeeded this year.

Shoot Em Up was hilarious and fun, in the same category as Crank. This doesn't always work though because Smokin' Aces was offensively bad. That movie somehow took the premise of competing hitmen fighting each other AND law enforcement and made it boring.

My list for WORST of '07...

Pirates of the Caribbean 3 - A hour too long, 40 different double and triple crosses, rehashed gags, and a craptastic finale that was more likely to put you to sleep than to entertain you.

Spiderman 3 - The characters have learned nothing and are still the same insecure emo kids that they were in the first film. Plus, all 38 villians were misused.

Hot Rod - I was embarrassed watching this..and I was alone.

American Gangster - Insanely bland, even though there were tons of awesome actors in it.

Shrek 3 - They can keep making these, but I'm not watching them anymore. Just more (too much) of the same thing.

I look forward to more crappy movies in '08.

While I'd be embarrassed to own 300 based on its historical accuracy, it really is pretty good when compared to the graphic novel it is based on. Guess it depends on how you look at it.

There are so many terrible movies, but I don't generally go to see them. The only bad ones I saw this year were:

Spider-Man 3. The reviews prepared me so I didn't expect much but it was still pretty embarrassing at times and it just never gelled at all. Still, if I saw all of the truly terrible gay-panic and redneck comedies, horror films, 80s nostalgia flicks, etc. then this one would not make my top 10.

300. I had no interest in this one but ended up watching it on DVD because my roommate Netflixed it. Wow. I can honestly say that in my opinion everything that you can do wrong when making a film, this film does wrong. I suppose the audio was synced to the video correctly so that is something, but aside from that, I thought every moment of the film and every decision made by the filmmakers was bad. It was exhaustingly boring and unmemorable, the acting was constipated, the look jarring and not at all appealing, and at no point did I feel anything remotely resembling an emotion. It just struck me as the comic-book-action-movie equivalent of one of those never-ending porno tapes that's all money shots. Clearly someone is getting off watching it but it ain't me.

I don't own it because I'd be embarrassed, but I can see why it's likable when compared to the graphic novel. It's stylized violence with lots of action. I'd say it's pretty good based on what it set out to accomplish. Did I feel for the characters or enjoy the film, no, but I know of people who did.

"Popcorn" usually implies there will be action which Transformers failed to provide until the final 15 minutes of a two and a half hour flick. I'm still baffled why giant robots sneaking around a flower garden, "My bad," buying shit off ebay, "Are you ladiesman1234?" and pissing on people was so entertaining to everyone. This movie failed on every level and definitely belongs on every "worst of" list of 2007.

ILM gets my respect for the film, but that's where the love ends. That's a lie. Megan Fox has an amazing midriff.

^I agree with Transformers being one of the Worst films of the year. Most of the 2nd half of the film would have been laughably bad if it wasn't so cringe-inducing.
Hitman was also a joyless piece of shit that I used a free ticket to and after the film ended I still flt ripped-off.

I saw some terrible movies this year (mostly what everyone stated, but not nearly all of them because, well, I tend to just avoid something that looks terrible (I'm looking at you Norbit.... $95 million? Seriously?). Just want to say that Wild Hogs was my most reviled of all movies this year. I went in expecting something terrible, and it was much, much worse. (And it made $168 million...)

Spidey 3 was bad, but really because I was expecting so much more. Raimi really messed it up and let me down hard.

Transformers I actually liked: giant CGI robots in a movie I don't have to care much about.

300 I enjoyed because it's just constant ridiculous over-the-top action, and I thought the style was very comic-bookish. I've had people for some reason tell me it's the "GREATEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME" before their head explodes. I don't understand this, but it was enjoyable.

And I liked Hot Rod: pointless, lame comedy that did what I expected. Got a few laughs and probably won't ever watch it again.
