The Bourne Movies

Is there anyone else that just doesnt like these movies? Critically and financially they have all be doing good to great but I just can't get into them. I feel like there's so little going on, not really any good or bad guys. Everyone kinda falls into a gray area and I wind up not caring about them or the plot. Thats just based off the first 2 movies, havent seen the 3rd yet.

I sitll bought the 3rd one with plans to watch it. :/

Actually, to me, this is one of the few movie trilogies that is extremely strong all the way through.

I missed the third one in the theatres, even with strong reviews... so I am quite anxious in seeing the third film tonight.

#1 was easily my favorite, and the most "rounded" movie. #2 and #3 play like they're part of a serial, and they are. It's an entertaining series with a surprisingly strong central character.

The fight scenes. The constantly running away from death. The fight scenes. The shadowy government stuff. The fight scenes. The car chases. The fight scenes. Bourne being a bad ass that James Bond wishes he was. The fight scenes.

You're not crazy at all, and you are correct about the grayness of the trilogy, both literally and figuratively. I don't care about the characters, either, but I did enjoy the action. Still, I don't feel the desire to see the films ever again.

I wouldnt go that far, but they are really good, thinking action flicks. Seems to me that Jason Bourne is like an everyman James Bond. Without the pomp and pretension of the traditional Bond.

Besides the action, I think most people can identify with Jason Bourne. Matt Damon's performance, along with an interesting supporting cast, is really what makes it more than just cool fight sequences. These aren't characters designed to make us care really, because these people aren't necessarily good. But they are doing their job, which "we" pay for, so I think it's interesting in that aspect as well. And these movies are fun to watch over and over again IMO.

I really enjoyed the first half hour of the 3rd one alot. And then the ridiuclous chases with no dialog and so many cuts that you cant tell what the hell is going on begin and I lose interest. I did enjoy the 3rd the most out of the 3 though.

The first one took me by surprise. I was expecting typical overblown action, but what I got was a deftly paced thriller featuring two exciting leads and produced with actual respect for the audience.

I very much enjoyed the second one, but missed Doug Liman's streamlined narrative. Paul Greengrass' kinetic camera was effective; there just wasn't as much... oomph... in seeing the same people put through the same genre ringers as the first, only with more back story.

The third is interesting in that all pretense is ignored and it becomes a relentless and exciting chase film. Damon shows how much he can carry a movie, being the constant in all three.

Oh... and the series did ignite an infatuation with Julia Stiles (I guess she's more interesting when used sparingly).

I have to say I enjoyed the third as an exciting film, but all the chasing stretched a little beyond believability - granted it wasn't nowhere as dumb or stupid as 'Live Free or Die Hard' - this delivered.

They're good movies. But they're nothing compared to the first 3 Bond films(Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger).

Hated the first one (should have been called "The Bored Identity").

Liked the second one.

LOVED the third one.

One of the few trilogies in movie history where the films get BETTER with each sequel.

Why does every Bourne thread have to involve James Bond?!

For some, The Bourne films might be more interesting than the Bond films, but Jason Bourne will never be as memorable of a character as Bond is/was. Bond has charisma, Bourne just comes off bland, IMO.

Aside from them both being secret agents, the James Bond and Bourne series have nothing in common.

Are you kidding? Do you really not see any similarities between Bourne and Bond? Maybe you saw a different trilogy of Bourne movies than I saw. You are, of course, entitled to your opinion, and I am as big a Bond fan as any, but the Bourne films, at least to me, feel like the more recent Bond films with fresh life breathed into them.
