This makes me think of the Valkyrie trailer where Singer is tagged as "the director of X2, Superman Returns and The Usual Suspects". To name his superhero movies is kind of dopey in the trailer for a serious Nazi drama, especially when he made Apt Pupil, which I think is about Nazis.

Kal-el would also be a holocaust survivor in a way, wouldn't he? Krypton did get wiped out.

Of course, the combination of Nazis and Superman is a little awkward if you throw a little Nietzsche into the mix.

I thought The Golden Compass' marketing was pretty desparate..."from the tradition of new line and the lord of the rings...and shows a ring transforming into a compass or something." come on, new line! don't go down that route!

Haha. Good one. The most effective part was when Jack is kissing [the ghost lady]. It was funny and creepy.

not a movie ad, but has got to be the one of the weirdest (and funniest) ads I've ever seen:

The over-the-top critic reviews on The Simpsons Movie DVD made me laugh when I was looking at the DVD today- the one on the front says: "you will laugh til your knees hurt and you can't breathe", and on the back says something to the effect "I'd see this 40 times". I know overall people liked this movie but come on.

Seriously, what happened to good advertising for movies? I feel like they essentially just show the same sort of scenes in exactly the same way, based on the genre. I think that's kinda dumb and makes your movie forgettable come time to go see it.

I think the Batman prologue is setting the standard on new ways of advertising movies in a smart way. Granted that's a highly anticipated movie, but I think it could work for ones that aren't so much.
