I thought The Golden Compass' marketing was pretty desparate..."from the tradition of new line and the lord of the rings...and shows a ring transforming into a compass or something." come on, new line! don't go down that route!

The over-the-top critic reviews on The Simpsons Movie DVD made me laugh when I was looking at the DVD today- the one on the front says: "you will laugh til your knees hurt and you can't breathe", and on the back says something to the effect "I'd see this 40 times". I know overall people liked this movie but come on.

Seriously, what happened to good advertising for movies? I feel like they essentially just show the same sort of scenes in exactly the same way, based on the genre. I think that's kinda dumb and makes your movie forgettable come time to go see it.
I think the Batman prologue is setting the standard on new ways of advertising movies in a smart way. Granted that's a highly anticipated movie, but I think it could work for ones that aren't so much.
