(AP) Actor Robert Goulet arrives at Broadway's Marquis Theater for the opening night of the musical...

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Robert Goulet, the handsome, big-voiced baritone whose Broadway debut in "Camelot" launched an award-winning stage and recording career, has died. He was 73.
The singer died Tuesday morning in a Los Angeles hospital while awaiting a lung transplant, said Goulet spokesman Norm Johnson.
He had been awaiting a lung transplant at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after being found last month to have a rare form of pulmonary fibrosis.
Goulet had remained in good spirits even as he waited for the transplant, said Vera Goulet, his wife of 25 years.
"Just watch my vocal cords," she said he told doctors before they inserted a breathing tube.
The Massachusetts-born Goulet, who spent much of his youth in Canada, gained stardom in 1960 with "Camelot," the Lerner and Loewe musical that starred Richard Burton as King Arthur and Julie Andrews as his Queen Guenevere.
Goulet played Sir Lancelot, the arrogant French knight who falls in love with Guenevere.
He became a hit with American TV viewers with appearances on "The Ed Sullivan Show" and other programs. Sullivan labeled him the "American baritone from Canada," where he had already been a popular star in the 1950s, hosting his own show called "General Electric's Showtime."

Lung Transplant? Damn!

He was always able to make fun of himself. I'll miss seeing him pop up in the most unexpected show or movie.

Just saw a story yesterday on Inside Edition (I think or one of those typeshows) talking about how he was waiting for a lung transplant. He really went quick. A shame. RIP

He was in a few episodes of Mr. Belvedere, too, I believe; he was pretty amusing in those.

I remember this guy being everywhere during the 60s. At the time he was married to Carol Lawrence(the original Maria in West Side Story) and they always appeared together on variety shows, Carson, Jerry Lewis Telethon, etc. Don't know if it's still popular but there was an animated movie called Gay Purr-ee abouts cats in France with his voice, Judy Garland also did a voice in it. Was on tv a lot when I was a kid.
I'll remember him most as secret agent David March in one of my favorite shows BLUE LIGHT. It was a WWII action adventure on wednesday nights during the spring of 1966, an hour after BATMAN on ABC. Only lasted 17 episodes. Goulet played David March, an american radio journalist(ala Walter Winchell) who pretends to defect to Germany. He broadcasts Nazi propaganda but is actually a deep undercover agent for the allies. He's despised as a traitor by the allies because the only one who knows he's really on our side is his controller in Britain. There were originally 13 Blue Light(the code word) agents but the gestapo hunted them down and killed them.
In the late 90s I crossed paths with a guy who had pristine, unedited 35mm prints of 16 of the 17 episodes that he had transferred to vhs. The bad news is that the missing episode was pt. 2 of a 3 parter about an underground V-2 rocket factory. Evidently Fox had released this 3 parter as a theatrical feature called I DEAL IN DANGER and it is available on dvd if you care to check it out.

 on that Cajun Christmas reference. Scrooged is so underrated.

It's so sad that he died, and now I bet he's ready for that big staring contest in the sky.

R.I.P. good sir.

Definitely the first thing I thought of as well. Sadly, most of these so-called "Entertainment" shows won't spend more than 5 seconds on this story; god for bid we remember somebody important... no, no, we must see Spears going to Starbucks for a latte'.

R.I.P. Mr. Goulet
