I know several women who want to see this, and a lot of kids. Hell, this weekend at Heroes Con, I heard more kids talking about GL than all years combined.

Same here. The ones I know are totally excited about this and Reynolds isn't even a major factor in their wanting to see it.

I still think it looks entertaining. And it's the only superhero movie my wife wants to see this summer. And she's never read a GL book.

Even if it's not great, I'm glad this was the approach they took. It's nice that if we're gonna get nothing but superhero movies, we can at least have some variety in them (period pieces, etc). This looks more like a sci-fi movie than a superhero movie. I'm glad they aren't afraid to embrace a more fantastical tone rather than trying to emulate the "Everything must be REAL!" Batman tone. Bodes well that we actually may get a sci-fi Superman movie.

Ryan Reynolds is the answer to your shrug.

loved the feel from those clips, feels very superheroish, when GL flew into the city next to the building i got a nice Superman The Movie feel for some reason.

Eh, DC fans enjoy this, I'm happy with what I'm seeing CAPTAIN AMERICA shaping up to be so far.

And why would anyone have to enjoy one at the exclusion of another?

I can't wait for both... (although Joe Johnston couldn't direct a decent movie if it bit him in the ass. If Cap is good, it's DESPITE his involvement, not because of it)

I sorta like the super fake look, almost like Sin City, but when they try to blend it with the real world that's where it falls apart.

I'm pretty sure they weren't going for a super fake look. That's about as good as Sony Imageworks goes...they're not someone you'd want for immersion in a realistic looking world etc....I'm sure WB was going for something that looks real.

What happened to the Sony Imageworks that did the groundbreaking effects for Starship Troopers?

How the mighty have fallen...

Re: Green Lantern - news, rumors, castings, etc.

I had reservations about them being on this because of how stagnant they've been. All of the Spiderman films have the exact same quality of CGI and even when they have enough time to do a great job like 2012, they still have the issues with the physics.

They're great for the matte and static shots but any movement and it's mediocre. I'd be interested to know if Sony's ever kept up with the ramp of CGI use in respect to upgrading hardware/hiring animators.

I am really pumped for this movie, but they need to ease up on the TV spots. What do they have, 10 or 11 different ones. They're gonna show the whole movie during the NBA Finals.

I was checking for showtimes on Fandango and they had the run time listed at 105 minutes.

Re: Green Lantern - news, rumors, castings, etc.

With all the tv spots and trailers showing the different footage, it gives off the impression that this would be a 2 hour+ epic film. I was expecting around 125 minute running time. But if it's cut down to the 105-110 range, then I guess the setup will go by fairly quickly.

Re: Green Lantern - news, rumors, castings, etc.

Bear in mind that with all the SFX and CGI in this movie, allot at least 20 minutes to the run time for credits.

Re: Green Lantern - news, rumors, castings, etc.

Not all comic book movie need to be an over two hour affair so I'm cool with this.

Shame about it not being R, though.

Review embargo until June 16th. Not a good sign.

What does that mean....review embargo?

At any rate, the movie looks terrible. Like a cross between "Fantastic Four" and "Mars Needs Moms".

Re: Green Lantern - news, rumors, castings, etc.

It means people can't post reviews until a specific date. In this case, June 16th, the day before it comes out.

Despite the special effects and overall weirdness of this film, I'd see it if it got great reviews.

I know what a review embargo is..but what happens if a review goes up? That's the part I don't understand. I don't understand the reason for it.

I don't know what the penalties are for early reviews. The reason for it is so that everyone doesn't hop on the internet tomorrow and learn that GL sucks ass. It's better to keep the momentum going at least until the picture opens.

Review embargos are much more common in video games. At least if you get screwed at the movie theater its only $10-$15 whereas spending $60 on a shitty game.
