Green Lantern - news, rumors, castings, etc.

That's true, and that would make sense even. But Johns isn't using that as a reason to make Hal Jordan rebel against authority. He altered his origin so that Hal's father died because someone in authority screwed up. So since that he always questions authority.

It's amazing how little buzz and excitement there seems to be for this title, even in comparison with something as awful-looking as Thor.

Maybe it is because Captian America looks like the Godfather compared to either of these. That said I still think this one looks good, but Thor ugh...

WB/DC will be in full force at next month's WonderCon promoting this movie and all things GL. Hopefully they'll debut a new trailer that will erase all the negativity associated with the teaser.
I'm very much looking forward to this movie and it bums me out that it's being perceived so negatively. I want to see Captain America too but it's strange to me how everyone seems to be so enamored by it based on a 30 second Super Bowl spot. Has everyone forgotten who the director is? You all have more faith in him than Martin Campbell? Come on.

Well... in his defense, Hal Jordan has been through quite a lot over the past decade or so.
Crushing personal failure that started with his team up with Green Arrow and rising "social conscience" and inability to save his home town and everyone he knew there; possessed by an alien life form that forced him to kill Sinestro, destroy the Green Lantern Corps and Guardians, and caused his rebirth as a near-omnipotent super-character who attempted to recreate the universe in its image; then reborn as the Spectre and later reborn, again, as a "rehabilitated" Green Lantern; etc., etc., etc.
Ye gad, I feel like such a comics nerd now.

Johnston has directed a handful of decent films. Same with Campbell. I don't see either director as a shining beacon for the film community. People are more into captain america because everything about it so far looks leaps and bounds better than GL. No matter what your faith in Campbell is GL looks like a turd of a movie.

My heart is sinking at the possibility of this being as bad as I think it will be.

That's not to say that a Bond director's directorial contributions are altogether eliminated by any means but they're certainly marginalized to the point that they're left with the more technical and hands-on elements of directing while the producers handle the intangibles.
This movie is much larger in scope than a Bond movie by its very nature and I'm fairly certain that Campbell's role as director is more traditional and to be honest I think that's probably a bad thing.

You can't really use Campbell's Bond films as an indicator for his ability to direct a non-Bond movie because with the Bond series the director is more like a television director meaning the executive producer (in the case of both of his Bond movies that would be Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson) are really calling all the shots.

GREEN LANTERN
In another portion of the LA Times interview with Jeff Robinov, the Warner Bros Motion Picture President explains the lack of marketing for the film. "We are on a learning curve in getting 3-D materials and marketing materials on the same schedule," he says. A new push for the film began this week at CinemaCon in Las Vegas and continues this weekend at WonderCon with a new trailer hitting theaters with "Thor," but Robinov admits the difficulties encountered in the marketing schedule are a one-time occurrence. "We won't be in this position again," he says. Meanwhile, Latino Review has learned that actor Michael Clarke Duncan is in talks to lend his voice to fan favorite GL Killowog. That's a brilliant choice.

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Geoffrey Rush provided the voice for Tomar-Re. They also mention that Michael Clarke Duncan is a contender to provide the voice for Kilowog, but a final decision hasn't been made.

They're still choosing voices for the movie character just a few months out from release? That seems odd but I guess they can be plugged in quick enough.

Same thing happened with laurence fishburne in Fantastic Four and David Hyde Pierce in Hellboy. And how late did James Earl Jones join Star Wars? Seems like the kind of thing you can probably record in a day or two.
