Jesus people... granted its a bit silly from what extremely little shown, but at least for a movie, there needs to be some sort of evolution of a character to maximize interest.... so, heroic, stoic regular guy becomes heroic, stoic green ring wearing crimefighter? um, OK, great, sure, I guess, vs. goofy regular Joe everyman becomes heroic stoic green ring wearing crimefighter? that's more evolution, and a bit more interesting thematically.

Correct, but if the character starts out as too goofy, almost to the point of annoying, then the evolution comes off as forced and not believable.

I would only add that the arc doesn't need to even happen in the first film.
I would be fine with seeing him gradually mature and become more (stern? somber?) over the course of several films, as events weather him.

All I could think was Thank God they aren't trying to force 'dark and gritty' on this. The last thing I want to see is a repeat of something like the Flash TV show which had to surrender any identity of it's own so it could trade on the same dark noir/art deco identity of Burtons first Batman.

No one was asking for "dark and gritty". We want "fun". Unfortunately it seems they might be veering towards "silly fun". There's a balance that those brief clips suggest they didn't strike. However, I'll reserve final judgement until I see the full trailer and any other trailers they release.

Thanks for the link! It definitely looks like they went a bit too light hearted with parts of the movie. I can see how they wanted to hit that Iron Man type of tone, but just went a bit too far with it by trying to play to Reynold's comedic strengths.

Still, it looks like it'll be fun.

Trailer thoughts from a GL fan who wears a GL belt buckle and carries a GL wallet: Er..... huh. Wasn't expecting such a humor-driven trailer. I'm a bit put off by it but it doesn't dampen my spirits for this movie. I'll still be in a seat in June.

I like it, they're kind of making his character more Kyle Rayner than Hal Jordan but frankly Hal Jordan was always a rather dull stiff in the comics anyway.

Having recently read the famous Daredevil stories for the first time (Born Again, Elektra) I actually think it's a pretty good adaptation.

That said, this gets more of a Fantastic Four vibe to me as far as the tone and style.
