Alien vs The Matrix....which is the better Sci-fi franchise?

I always wondered which of these two franchises people enjoyed the most. I personaly think Alien is the best of these two even if the third one sucked. Although I must admit I DO enjoy all three Matrix films, and I certainly think the first Matrix film is better than the first Alien film.

Also, which dvd boxset do you think is better...the Alien Quadrilogy boxset or The Matrix Ultimate Collection dvd set?

Alien will probably win this in a landslide based on the strength of the first two movies alone.

Personally, I didn't care for Alien but thoroughly enjoyed Aliens. I loved The Matrix and didn't think the sequels were as bad as most people thingk, so I voted Matrix.

Alien and Aliens are AWESOME movies. The other two - progressively worse. THOUGH I do kind of appreciate Resurrection more, now that I'm more familiar with Jeunet's work. I remember seeing it for the first time when I was 15-or-so. And I thought it was the dumbest fuckin thing I'd ever seen.

The Matrix is an AWESOME movie. Incredibly fun. Slightly damaging to my senses (just the way I like it). The sequels are progressivly, laughably, cringe-inducingly bad. The highway scene in Reloaded was the only positive quality. Three just didn't impress me at any point.

I prefer Alien.

The original Alien is unequivocally the best film either franchise has produced. The fact that Cameron's Aliens is superior to the subsequent Matrix sequels solidifies its position as the better franchise of the two.

 What meritocracy said. Alien is far superior to any of the other films in both series. I like Aliens but it doesn't come close to Scott's original.
The less said about the two Matrix sequels the better.

 Yep.

brainee 10-23-07 10:42 PM

2 great movies versus 1 great movie ... Alien wins

Cardsfan111 10-23-07 10:46 PM

The Alien franchise wins hands down in my opinion. I know I'm in a minority but I never cared for the Matrix films.

UAIOE 10-23-07 11:39 PM

"The Matrix" is good, but "Aliens" is light years better.

MartinBlank 10-24-07 01:18 AM

Alien by far.

JPRaup 10-24-07 01:20 AM

I love Matrix. Reloaded is a perfect action film IMO, but nothing can save it from the mess that is Revolutions. Never seen an Alien movie so I have to go with Matrix

TGM 10-24-07 04:32 AM

without a doubt, the Alien series. Which is too bad, because the 1st Matrix rocked.

iggystar 10-24-07 05:33 AM

The Matrix is probably my favorite movie of all time, but Aliens is number two and that franchise as a whole is much stronger, so for me it's Aliens.

mndtrp 10-24-07 06:43 AM

I enjoyed all of the Matrix movies, even though I agree they got much worse after the first one.
The Alien movies did the same, although I like them more than Matrix.

Alien series wins.

Ronnie Dobbs 10-24-07 08:22 AM

Alien and Aliens are great. So I go with the Alien franchise.

You're not alone. I'd even take AvP over any of the Matrix films.

DVD Josh 10-24-07 08:42 AM

If I had to rank all of them

1. Matrix (and it's not even close)
2. Alien
3. Aliens
4. Matrix Reloaded
5. Alien 3
6. Matrix Revolutions
7. Alien 4
10986776454522. Superman IV: Quest for Peace.

The Bus 10-24-07 09:06 AM

I'd rather watch Alien: Resurrection than the third Matrix.

chanster 10-24-07 09:39 AM

Aliens
Matrix
Alien
Matrix Reloaded
Alien 3
Alien Resurrection
Matrix Revolutions

IMHO, the Matrix sequels damage the original Matrix more than the Aliens 3+4 damage Alien + Aliens...

.Either one of the first two Aliens could probably viewed and enjoyed in isolation without interference from Alien 3 +4 ...although Alien 3 does kill Newt + Hicks.

The Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions definitely rewrite the ideas behind the original Matrix and thats a damn shame.

B5Erik 10-24-07 10:13 AM

All of the Alien sequels are good in one way or another (in the case of Aliens a true classic), whereas with The Matrix the sequels were crap (IMO).

Large Advantage: Alien

celmendo 10-24-07 10:38 AM

Aliens by a mile for entertainment and re-watch ability. Matrix for complexity/richness of the story.

TheNightFlier 10-24-07 10:42 AM

Alien.

jaeufraser 10-24-07 12:16 PM

Alien and Aliens are better than any of the Matrix films.

I prefer the Matrix films to Alien 3 and 4.

So Alien wins.

Doughboy 10-24-07 12:36 PM

If I pretend the last 2 movies in both series never happened, that leaves Alien and Aliens vs. The Matrix. So the Alien franchise wins.

Thankfully neither Aliens nor The Matrix ends with a cliffhanger, so I'm able to get away with that.:) I'm not quite as fortunate with Spider-Man 1 & 2.

nemein 10-24-07 12:45 PM

I'd rank them

Alien / Aliens - hard to say which is better since they are such different movies
Matrix
Alien 3
Matrix 2/3 and Alien 4 - all 3 of these are equally horrible IMHO and I'd rather not watch any of them again

So overall Alien wins
