X-Files 2 to start production in December

The long rumored X-Files sequel is finally a go. It will reportedly start production in December and will be directed by Chris Carter. Carter and Frank Spotnitz wrote the script.

Now I'm wondering if there will actually be an audience for this movie since the 1st one came out back in 1998. Is 10 years the longest time before a sequel was released for any film franchise?

Giles 10-17-07 01:25 PM

so are they expecting to release this next Fall or early 2009?

It did beat out the Elizabeth sequel, which took nine years. And Bad Boys, which took 8 years. But what about the Godfather, which took 16 years between parts 2 and 3? Or Terminator 2 and 3, which took twelve years.

With a 3 month shoot, the earliest they could possibly release this is Fall or Winter 2008.

Omg Omg Omg Yes!

I think the OP was referring to the time between a first and second installment, otherwise you could include Rocky Balboa (16 years), Live Free or Die Hard (12 years), the new Rambo movie (20 years!), etc...

Hopefully they get some young blood as the leads, with cameos from the original cast to give advice. Not interested in seeing a couple decrepit geezers investigating aliens.

DJariya 10-17-07 01:43 PM

Yeah that's exactly what I meant. Didn't realize Elizabeth was 9 years since the 1st part.

Howiefan 10-17-07 01:44 PM

Oh Em Gee!

DJariya 10-17-07 01:45 PM

If Robert Patrick isn't busy doing The Unit, I would love to see John Doggett make a return.

I hope they delve more deeply into that guy who was living in the Brady Bunch house. I think people want more of that kind of stuff that was served to us during the final season.

riley_dude 10-17-07 02:21 PM

Great news!
I know many people who got turned onto the show after it ended by watching the DVDs so I think there is an audience.

What about "The Wizard of Oz" 1939 and "Return to Oz" 1985. That's about 46 years.

xfilefanfreak 10-17-07 02:43 PM

i cant wait

and the Last Crusade and whatever that goofy title of Indy 4 is... 19 years.

awesome news

How are they going to do this?

IIRC, the series finale of the X-Files had Fox and Dana on the run from the government/conspiracy. If the story isn't going to be mythology-based and just be a standalone monster-of-the-week type of deal, does that mean they're going to ignore the last two/three seasons?

tacos 10-17-07 07:32 PM

Funny, I just received the dts dvd from dvdplanet today. Can't remember ever seeing the movie and I placed an order that needed a few extra bucks to get a coupon to take. So, I ordered this.

GoldenJCJ 10-17-07 07:41 PM

I wasn't too impressed with the 1st film. Hopefully, it'll be better considering it won't have to tie in with the show any more and can be a stand alone story.

and it was 55 years between Gone With the Wind and Scarlett

I think it's going to be set before the show went off the rails.

I've been waiting for this film for a loooooooong time. This is just fantastic news!

benh911 10-17-07 08:25 PM

It's going to be a stand-alone movie from what's been reported, not focused on the mythology.
