There's a fascinating bonus on works in progress in which they show the complete development of a few scenes from scratch. Here's some examples:

These two shots are indicative of the rigid point-of-view employed in much of the first half of this movie:

This may clue folks in on the film's origin.

And I believe that's the DP credit.

Okay, some more clues before more shots:

This film has won a major international award.

The location of this film resides in a politically controversial region, though the film itself is not necessarily political and was made well before the current storm of attention there.

The Wind Will Carry Us?

or

Ten

I doubt the latter though.

You are close Giles. I think it's just a matter of narrowing down... so here's a couple more shots:

The top shot shows two crucial elements in the film's story. The bottom shot is just pretty.

Ok then, Giles had the right director.

It won the Palme d'Or at Cannes.

And it wasn't made this decade.

I was hoping someone familiar with the movie would have stumbled in before I had to drop the breadcrumbs. But it was an eventuality I was prepared for.

Your last two clues pretty much gave it away.

Damn! I'm always a minute too late. I could've gotten it after the third shot.

Aint that how it always goes?

And for anyone curious, the director of Taste of Cherry is Abbas Kiarostami. It is an Iranian film from 1997.

Nope, not Babel. It is a fairly recent film though.
