Wind River (W/D: Taylor Sheridan) S: Olsen, Renner, Bernthal
U.S. Fish & Wildlife agent Cory Lambert discovers a body in the rugged wilderness of the Wind River Indian Reservation. The FBI sends in rookie agent Jane Banner, but she's unprepared for the difficulties created by the oppressive weather and isolation of the Wyoming winter. When she employs Cory as a tracker, the two venture deep into a world ravaged by violence and the elements. Wind River is a stark look at life on the edge of an imposing wilderness, where the rule of law is eclipsed by the laws of nature.

My friend said it was his 2nd favorite film at Sundance with "a surprisingly complex performance by Jeremy Renner," and "the relationships between those on the rez and who they see as the outsiders is as accurate as it gets."

Saw it late last night and loved it. Great performances by Renner and Olsen. Olsen is gorgeous (fantastic glimpse of her ass in this too), she is totally my type. Bernthal has a small part, but it's effective. Swear I got chilly just watching this movie, the harsh environment is basically the main character of the story.
I would say there's nothing particularly special about the plot itself, but it's well written and well directed. There's a great shootout in the 3rd part of the movie. Sheridan has an eye for action, he's not just a good writer.
I suspect it'll be in my Top 5 of the year.

I really liked Hell or High Water, and the premise sounds cool. I'm a fan of Olsen but I loathe Renner, so I'll wait for Netflix.

I thought it would be awhile before a film topped Dunkirk for me. This did just that. I loved it. Great film.

Wind River...wow. just a great movie. had no idea where it was going or why, but the ride was just thrilling and intense. Renner, i hope, gets recognition come Oscar time. i dare say this was a better performance than The Hurt Locker. he carried this movie and was in nearly every scene and was magnificent. his emotion, his toughness. just perfect. As much as I love Olsen (acting and looks), this was a meh role for her and it really could have been anyone in it. Just fantastic writing and directing by Sheridan.
one question...
the dialogue in my theater was almost inaudible and i missed some. oh well. still just a fantastic end of summer film that should have been closer to Dec for Oscar consideration. hopefully the fickle Academy remembers.
