Movies that deal with government?
I was wondering about some movies that are entertaining that deal mostly with government, either domestic or abroad for a Government class I am teaching in HS.
Something a little more serious that "The American President" or "Dave" although they aren't bad choices, but I think "Dave" deals with a little better with aspects of government, rather than mostly a romance in AP. I was thinking "A Few Good Men", but that seems more about the court case than intricacies of gov't. Any you can think of that can be readily gotten sometime? |
I know it's not a movie but I think an episode or two of The West Wing would be a good choice. IMO, the best choice for entertainment about government without adding a useless subplot of corruption, conspiracy, scandal, etc. that you find in most movies about the Government.

All the Presidents Men?

Nixon?

V for Vendetta is my favorite on this topic. I don't think the Principal of your school would be thrilled with this choice however.

I'll second Nixon.
The Contender Primary Colors Thirteen Days The Candidate JFK |
3 Days Of The Condor

I second
The Contender and I'll add Mr Smith Goes To Washington V for Vendetta would be a good one if you are looking at the suppression of freedoms and its effects. |
Canadian Bacon :D2:

I second 13 days.

Don't overlook one of the best HBO movies ever - PATH TO WAR. Directed by John Frankenheimer, starring Michael Gambon, Alec Baldwin, Donald Sutherland and Felicity Huffman, it's a chilling look at how President Johnson was counseled regarding the Vietnam war.
