What a great 'Coming of age' type of film set in england in the 80s. Really enjoyed it, great filmmaking.

Summary from IMDB

Set during the summer of 1983, THIS IS ENGLAND is the story of Shaun (Thomas Turgoose); a precocious twelve-year-oldcoming to terms with the death of his father. Shaun is soon inducted into a group of local skinheads; a fun loving bunch who spend days committing petty vandalism and listening to ska records. Although much younger than the other members of the group, Shaun endears himself upon them with his sheer determination and defiance, and is quickly embraced as their mascot. However, the frivolity and naivety comes to an abrupt conclusion when ex-member Combo (Steven Graham) is released from a spell in prison. Combo soon causes a rift within the group and becomes the catalyst for them becoming a militant, racist force.

It's gonna play for sure here in my city. I like those films, Alan Clarke's "Made in Brittian" and "If..", should be good, even if those films aren't like "This is England".

Looking forward to it!

Saw this trailer on the 'Movie Trailers on Demand' channel and thought it looked really good and actually hit home since I grew up in England aroudn that time so I'm sure I'll be able to relate to most of it.

Unfortunately I'll be surprised if my local plays this and will probably wait for the DVD release.

CNN listed this as one of the good summer movies that you may have missed. I am definitely interested in checking it out:

I saw this in Toronto last year and I can't recommend it highly enough. I think with this and "Dead Man's Shoes" Meadows could be one of our finest active filmmakers.

I saw this film a while ago and thought it was pretty good. Onlyt one actor in it that i had seen before (guy from Snatch). It set the period of the early 80s in England well...and seeing Roland Rat brought a smile to my face having grown up watching TV-AM. I think that Shane Meadows is definately a promsing talent and i would like to see what he could do given a studio budget and a story on a larger scale.

For anyone that likes this kind of movie i can recommend Made in Britain. It stars Tim Roth and was one of the series of David LeLand movies that were done in the late 70s/early 80s about life in England. Tim Roth plays a mean skinhead deliquent and the movie stand up really well even today. There is also Scum (with a very young Ray Winstone in his first role) and The Firm....and as good as they are i don't think they match up to Britain.

This is a great movie. It already opened in most U.S. cities. I saw it on the airplane going over to the U.K. last May (Virgin Atlantic). Not sure it's a movie I want to own. Not that it's bad, but it's tough to watch over and over because of the subject matter. It is a must rent though.

I watched this last night on my Xbox 360 via Netflix, and absolutely loved it. Fantastic characters, great 80s feel and a wonderful story. I'll probably end up picking this one up on DVD sometime in the near future.

I saw this movie recently wasn't that impressed and felt kind of freaked and grossed out by the MCs relationship with the far older looking girl lol.

the characters didn't seem all that belivable to me either.
