Johnnie To's EXILED now in limited U.S. release

Johnnie To's 2006 hit EXILED opened today in limited release, getting some solid positive reviews from the NY press.

I caught a showing this afternoon, and it's terrific. It's sort of a Sergio Leone film noir western influenced by Sam Peckinpah and set in late 90's Macao. Somehow it works. The ballistic set pieces are dazzling, the photography is amazing, and even the music (at one point a mourneful solo harmonica) contribute to give an almost mythic feel to the whole thing.

I know this has been out for several months on an R3 DVD from Hong Kong, but anyone else seeing this on the big screen?

This film is amazing. I have the R3 but before I bought that I caught it at AFI Dallas and was blown away. The finale is a showstopper and you don't get better gunplay than that. I highly recommend this film and hope to make it out to the theater while it is around.

Unfortunately we didin't have it released theatrically here. Some time ago I purchased To's The Mission, liked it immensely and started searching for Exiled. Bought a HK SE (ring binder) on ebay and was blown away. The opening scene with its music and cinematography was just amazing as well as many others. Exiled is one of the most stylish and well-done action flicks I've seen. Now I'm after some other of To's films.
