Eh, I enjoyed reading the Hobbit, so I think it could be a good movie. And I've got nothing against PJ, so I say let him direct it.
|
Well, Legolas is a wood elf from Mirkwood forest, so it is actually quite possible he would be in the movie. Hopefully just a cameo though.

A little off-topic, but is anybody else non-plussed about a King Kong remake? I mean the giant gorilla thing just doesn't sound that interesting to me....Of course Jackson will have some sappy scenes with Arwen romancing the giant ape....

Hopefully, Jackson will attempt to do something other than Middle Earth.
It's confirmed that he did well. Now, let's see you start making some different and intersting films with real people. |
guess you never saw dead alive. that was.. uh.. interesting.. and it had slightly alive people.. :p

Originally posted by rushmore223 Keep in mind, wasnt it Miramax (or some other company) who had rights to Lord of the rings, and when things fell through between Jackson and them New Line moved in and negotiated a deal. I think they gave them $100 million + a small portion of the profits. From all the rights issues I've read, it seems that it's not in dispute whether or not Miramax has the rights to The Hobbit. By most accounts they don't. |

Peter Jackson - "The Hobbit"
It looks like Peter Jackson has a strong desire to make "The Hobbit" see story:
<http://www.msnbc.com/news/1004071.asp?0dm=C1BXL> I can't imagine the studios not wanting to jump on that opportunity. |
This has been posted before, but is great news nonetheless. I really like the idea, but I wouldn't want to see it without Ian Mckellen as Gandalf and Andy Serkis as Gollum (including the same animation). Ian Holm would be nice as well.

Looks like Peter Jackson feels the same way.
From the article: _________________________________________________ "AP: There’s a lot of curiosity now about whether anyone will film Tolkien’s prequel, ‘The Hobbit.’ Are you interested in directing that someday? Jackson: I’d be happy to. It would be strange for somebody else to do it. And I also think to do justice to ‘The Hobbit’ it would be great to bring some of the same actors back. (Like Ian McKellen for the wizard Gandalf and Andy Serkis for the ghoulish Gollum.) I think it would be cool thing to have the continuity of the design and the look and feel of the world and use whatever actors we’re able to repeat in the story. __________________________________________________ |
I don't think Christopher Tolkien is going to let it happen. I read a story on the onering.net about how he doesn't speak to his own son or see his grandchildren because his son had the audacity to like the first movie.

There is a "rights issue" keeping that project from moving forward, but Tolkien has nothing to do with it. The problem is that New Line has acquired the rights to make the movie, but they don't have the rights to distribute it. And, of course, seeing the success of the LOTR films, the studio that does hold the distribution rights is asking for a sizeable chunk of change. |
Possible Peter Jackson Hobbit news
There is not so much in the way of details here, but there seems to be some interest.

Well, that still doesn't iron out the rights issues The Hobbit suffers from, with MGM owning certain rights and Time Warner others. Though, I imagine it won't be too hard for them to figure it out considering the masive financial potential of The Hobbit.
|
Yeah, I think Dominic, Billy, Elijah, and Sean need to move on. They seem a bit obsessed.

This would be so cool if it happened.

Yeah, the only characters from "The Lord of the Rings" that appear in "The Hobbit" are Gandalf, Bilbo, and Elrond. Gloin, Gimli's father, is also in it.
The events of "The Hobbit" take place before Frodo, Sam, Pippin, and Merry were born. |

In the ROTK EE special features John Rhys Davies says that he will never play a dwarf again. I wonder if he would come back as Gloin?
