Weekend Box-Office? (7/20-7/22)

No weekend box-office talk yet? Whoever always gets Friday's numbers, can you post them? It's usually up by now. Very curious.

Transformers looks like it'll take in around $20 million, well on its way to becoming the 4th movie to cross the $300 million mark this year. Very impressive.

I was joking, in saying that I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry would do good at the Box Office, but it looks like I was right. Nice too see beat Hairspray, which everyone seems to be loving but it makes me cringe whenever I see John Travolta as that fat woman. Nice too see the movie take the Harry Potter movie too 3rd.
Can't wait for I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry to come out on DVD, Kevin James (along with Sandler) is the main reason I want too see this. They look like they have great chemistry together. Plus Jessica Biel=

I can't wait to hear the social commentary for this movie,

Hairspray may have been #1 if it opened at the same amount of theaters as Chuck & Larry. Their per screen averages are almost identical.

Well, with 14% positive reviews (according to Rotten Tomatoes) as opposed to the 94% positive for Hairspray, it's interesting to see someone finding glee in the box office results for Friday - especially from someone who hasn't even seen either movie.

Trust me on this - people leaving Hairspray will be smiling a lot more than people leaving Chuck and Larry.

Someone approaches Kevin James, a fat guy on a ladder, and says "I'd like to ask you about your domestic partnership", and he falls off that ladder? Oh the hillarity! If the trailer is that funny I can't imagine what they saved for the movie.

No big surprises here. Glad to see Transformers still holding up pretty well. I want to see a sequel to it made and with the $ they've been banking it's a lock for sure.

You think this may be the Oscar Travolta gets for his supporting performance in HAIRSPRAY?

Why not he is great in Hairspray I loved every minute of it. Word of mouth will carry this one far.

There is no way he will get an Oscar for Hairspray, that is ridiculous. Great movie though.

Surprised that "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Buck" isn't doing better. Is Sandler losing his touch?

DVDTalk gave "Hairspray" a very negative review so I probably won't be seeing it. It sounds really bad. If a movie doesn't get the DVDTalk seal of approval then it's not worth seeing.

There's three separate reviews up. Two are Highly Recommended and one is a Rent It.

Not that I'm saying we should all rush out and see Hairspray. I'm just saying....

^Ok, then I'll do. I'm saying you should all rush out and see Hairspray. I think the numbers it did yesterday were decent. I wouldn't have bet against Sandler, so I'm not surprised Chuck & Larry opened well, but I think it'll sink like a stone, but Hairspray is going to be bolstered by good word of mouth and a lot of the target audience skews a little older, and they don't feel the need to rush out on opening weekend to catch it.

Seems a bit extreme. Let's say it opens with $35 million. Not his best outing, but generally in line with an Adam Sandler opening, if on the low end. Click did $40 million, The Longest Yard did $47 million, 50 First Dates did $39 million, Anger Management $42 million, Mr. Deeds $37 million, Big Daddy $41 million, and the Waterboy $39 million.

I have not paid to see the last several Sandler movies. I've caught all of them on cable. Thinking most if not all were mediocre at best. "The Wedding Singer" being his best. But I just got back from seeing "Hairspray" and it was the most enjoyable movie I've seen all year. And I pretty much do not like musicals.

Good for them. I'm not a hug fan of musicals but I did like Chicago, but it looked intresting from the preview on TV, unlike Hairspray which might be getting positive reviews but I have no intrest in seeing it. I'm looking foward too seeing I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. I usually like a bit more smarter movies but for some reason Adam Sandler flicks are a guilty pleasure of mine.
Maybe my the time Hairspray comes out on DVD (buy all movies on DVD, don't go to theaters) I'll give it a shot. I really don't care for John Travolta at all, is he in alot of the movie?

Yep, it'll be in line with his other films. And let's be realistic, 2 straight firemen posing as a gay couple to gain benefits is probably a tougher sell to Sandler fans as opposed to some of his other hits.

Also, imo, the trailers pitch Kevin James as the lead with Sandler as a secondary character.

That's because Kevin James' character is the one that drives the plot/situation in the movie.
